CGI HAS DEVELOPED THE BYTAVI PROJECT. THIS PROGRAM IS SO MUCH MORE THAN SIMPLY TEACHING SOMEONE TO USE A NEEDLE AND THREAD. THE WOMEN ON THE BYTAVI TEAM EARN FAIR WAGES WHICH ENABLES THEM TO PROVIDE PROPER FOOD AND SHELTER FOR THEIR FAMILIES, SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL, PURCHASE MEDICATIONS AS NEEDED, AND COVER OTHER NECESSARY LIVING EXPENSES ESSENTIAL TO HEALTHY AND PRODUCTIVE LIVES.
THE CULINARY TRAINING CENTER (CTC) IS AN 18-MONTH PROGRAM THAT TEACHES CULINARY, CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT SKILLS TO AT-RISK GIRLS WHO LIVE IN BATTAMBANG, CAMBODIA. MANY OF THE CTC PARTICIPANTS ARE REFERRED BY PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. IN ADDITION TO CULINARY SKILLS, CTC PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE TRAINING IN ENGLISH, KHMER (NATIVE LANGUAGE), LIFE SKILLS, MATH, COMPUTER, AND PERSONAL FINANCES. THIS HOLISTIC TRAINING IS ACCOMPLISHED BY A TEAM OF CAMBODIAN ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS, AND SOCIAL WORKERS. THE CTC IS COMPLEMENTED BY A CGI-OPERATED RESTAURANT: THE GREEN MANGO CAFE & BAKERY. THE RESTAURANT SUPPORTS THE CTC IN THREE WAYS, THE FIRST BEING THAT IT SERVES AS A TRAINING LAB FOR PARTICIPANTS. BECAUSE IT IS A WORKING RESTAURANT, IT ALSO GENERATES REVENUE THAT (CONTINUED ON SCH O) OFFSETS PROGRAM EXPENSES. FINALLY, THE GREEN MANGO REPRESENTS LONG-TERM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR CTC GRADUATES.
GIRLS WHO ARE PART OF CGI'S "IMPRINT PROJECT" PARTICIPATE IN AN INTENSIVE 12-MONTH LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM THAT FOCUSES ON SPIRITUAL FORMATION, GENERAL EDUCATION, AND VOCATIONAL SEAMSTRESS TRAINING. CGI WORKS WITH OTHER NONPROFIT MINISTRIES TO ASSIST GIRLS WHO HAVE BEEN RESCUED FROM TRAFFICKING AND THOSE WHO ARE AT HIGH RISK. IMPRINT PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE TRAINING IN ENGLISH, KHMER (NATIVE LANGUAGE), LIFE SKILLS, MATH, COMPUTER, PERSONAL FINANCES AND SEWING. THIS HOLISTIC TRAINING IS ACCOMPLISHED BY A TEAM OF CAMBODIAN ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS AND SOCIAL WORKERS.
