OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE THE CITIES OF STILLWATER AND OAK PARK HEIGHTS MINNESOTA AS A DESTINATION POINT FOR TOURISM AND BUSINESS GATHERINGS. WHY: STILLWATER IS CONSIDERED THE HISTORIC BIRTHPLACE OF MINNESOTA BECAUSE IN 1848 THE FIRST TERRITORIAL CONVENTION THAT BEGAN THE PROCESS OF ESTABLISHING MINNESOTA AS A STATE WAS HELD ON THE CORNER OF MERTLE AND MAIN STREET DOWNTOWN. STILLWATER IS ALSO ONE OF MINNESOTA'S OLDEST TOWNS, PRECEDING MINNEAPOLIS BY YEARS. AT THE TIME OF INCORPORATION AS A CITY IN 1854, STILLWATER WAS THE LARGEST IN THE STATE. HOW: THROUGH THE FUNDING OF A MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE APPROVED 3% LODGING TAX ON HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS LOCATED WITHIN THE TWO CITY LIMITS, VISITORS GUIDES ARE PRODUCED, MAPS ARE AVAILABLE, A WEB SITE IS MAINTAINED, AND SMALL GRANTS ARE MADE TO LOGAL ACTIVITIES, ALL IN AN EFFORT TO PROMOTE THE STILLWATER AND OAK PARK HEIGHTS AREA.
