ADVOCACY - NRCAT-AF ADVOCATES FOR AN END TO POLICIES THAT PROMOTE TORTURE OR CRUEL, INHUMAN, OR DEGRADING TREATMENT. THIS WORK IS LARGELY FOCUSED ON CHANGING FEDERAL LAWS AND POLICIES, BUT ALSO INCLUDES WORK TO CHANGE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL JAIL AND PRISON PRACTICES OF SOLITARY CONFINEMENT AND OTHER CRUEL AND INHUMANE TREATMENT.


CAMPAIGN INTERVENTION - NRCAT-AF ALSO ENGAGES IN SOME LIMITED ELECTORAL WORK. IT EDUCATES PEOPLE IN PARTICULAR STATES ABOUT CANDIDATES' POSITIONS ON TORTURE USING A VARIETY OF MEANS, INCLUDING NEWSPAPER ADS, QUESTIONS AT PUBLIC FORUMS, AND VOTER GUIDES COMPARING CANDIDATES ON TORTURE.
