ESTABLISH AND OPERATE AN INDEPENDENT RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN.

OPENED AND OPERATED SCHOOL: AFTER FOUR YEARS OF PREPARATION, THE CHRISTINA SEIX ACADEMY OPENED TO 70 PRE-KINDERGARTEN AND KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2012. INSTRUCTIONAL STAFFING RESULTED IN A STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO OF 5 TO 1 FOR AN EXTENDED DAY (8 AM TO 4:30 PM), EXTENDED YEAR (245 DAY) PROGRAM. RIGOROUS READING, MATH, AND DEVELOPMENT CURRICULA WERE IMPLEMENTED WITH EXTENSIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STAFF. THE ACADEMY ADMISSIONS OFFICE IMPLEMENTED A COMPREHENSIVE ADMISSIONS PROGRAM THAT ADMITTED THE FIRST STUDENTS FROM AN INITIAL APPLICANT POOL OF 300. IN SUPPORT OF STUDENT NEEDS, THE ACADEMY IMPLEMENTED A HEATH & WELLNESS PROGRAM, INCLUDING INCREASED CHILD SCREENINGS FOR VISION, ASTHMA, AND DENTAL ISSUES. TO ENSURE STUDENTS ARE WELL-EQUIPPED FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS, THE ACADEMY NUTRITION PROGRAM PROVIDES BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND TWO SNACKS DAILY, FREE OF CHARGE TO STUDENTS. STUDENT PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF FREE PROGRAMMING PROVIDED THROUGH THE ACADEMY FAMILY CENTER, INCLUDING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT COUNSELING ASSISTANCE, AND SOCIAL SERVICE REFERRALS, IN ADDITION TO CAMPUS EVENTS.
CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION: CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHRISTINA SEIX ACADEMY CAMPUS, COMPRISING 10 BUILDINGS ON 65 ACRES, WAS COMPLETED IN AUGUST 2012. COMPLETION OF CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION ENABLED OPENING OF THE ACADEMY TO STUDENTS, AND INCORPORATED ENERGY-EFFICIENT SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES AS WELL AS LEED-CERTIFIED BUILDING MATERIALS AND METHODS.
LAND PURCHASE: THE ACADEMY PURCHASED 5 ACRES OF ADJACENT LAND FROM THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY FOR FUTURE EXPANSION OF THE CAMPUS.
