THE MUSEUM OF FRIENDS SEEKS TO HONOR THE ARTISTS WHO HAVE FREELY GIVEN ART TO THE MUSEUM, THEREBY ESTABLISHING ITS COLLECTION. MOF'S MISSION: TO FOSTER OPEN INQUIRY TOWARD ARTS AND CULTURAL EDUCATION AND ITS IDEALS THROUGH EXHIBITIONS, PUBLIC AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND AN EXTENSIVE PUBLIC REFERENCE LIBRARY AND PERMANENT COLLECTION. IT PLEDGES TO SERVE COLORADO AS AN ARTS AND CULTURAL RESOURCE, AND TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WALSENBURG COMMUNITY AND THROUGHOUT HUERFANO COUNTY.

THE MUSEUM'S SCHOOL TOUR PROGRAM" IS OFFERED TO LOCAL AND NEIGHBORING AREA SCHOOLS FOR CLASSES PRE-K THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. THE PROGRAM IS PLANNED WITH TEACHERS WHO USE THE MUSEUM'S COLLECTIONS FOR CURRICULUM PLANNING GOALS. THE TOUR IS FOLLOWED BY EITHER AN ART, WRITING OR PHYSICAL SELF-EXPRESSION ACTIVITY. THE PROGRAM OFFERS IN-DEPTH LEARNING OF EITHER A STEAM OR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING FOR PRE-K THROUGH 12; ADULT AND OLDER ADULT PUBLIC PROGRAMS. IN 2021 A TOTAL OF 118 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN THE SCHOOL-TOUR PROGRAM AND THE FRIDAY ART LAB.
FRIDAY ART LAB IS OFFERED TO SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN AND FOCUSES ON DOWNTOWN BEAUTIFICATION WITH ART PLANTER BOXES, AND AN ACTIVE GARDENING PROGRAM AND BASED ON PHILANTHROPY FOR THE COMMON GOOD MODEL. DURING 2021 APPROXIMATELY 28 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED.
EXHIBITIONS AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS 2021 THE NUMBER OF ADULT VISITORS FOR CHANGING EXHIBITIONS GUIDED AND SELF-GUIDED TOURS WERE CONDUCTED MOSTLY ON-LINE AND NUMBERED APPROXIMATELY 2,823. THE CURRENT PROGRAMS ARE: THE PERMANENT COLLECTION OF CONTEMPORARY ART WITH 1600 WORKS - PAINTINGS, PRINTS, SCULPTURES PHOTOGRAPHS ON THE 2ND FLOOR AND NOW ACCESSIBLE WITH AN ELEVATOR; CHANGING EXHIBITIONS ON THE GROUND AND 2ND FLOOR; THE CURRENT PROGRAM FOR ADULTS WORKING ON THEIR SOBRIETY "CREATIVE VISUALIZATION, MEDITATION AND ART" IS SUPPORTED BY THE 3RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT DRUG COURT. IN 2021 A TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY 570 ADULTS PARTICIPATED OR WEEKLY 10 TO 12 THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND WAS DELIVERED VIA ZOOM.
