EMERGENT WORKS INC. TRAINS AND EMPLOYS RETURNING CITIZENS AND THOSE IMPACTED BY THE CRIMINAL LEGAL SYSTEM THROUGH TECHNICAL PROGRAMMING THAT PROVIDES FREE ACCESS TO EDUCATION, RESOURCES, A SAFE COMMUNITY, AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES; IN HOPES OF ENDING THE REVOLVING DOOR OF MASS INCARCERATION AND CLOSING THE WEALTH GAP AND DIGITAL DIVIDE. AS PART OF OUR TRAINING, WE DEVELOP TECH SOLUTIONS TO SUPPORT MISSION-ALIGNED ORGANIZATIONS IN ACHIEVING THEIR PART OF ENDING MASS INCARCERATION. THIS PUTS US ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FIGHT - EDUCATION & SUPPORT.
PREPROBONO IS A 501(C)(3) PROGRAM, FISCALLY SPONSORED BY THE GRASSROOTS NOT-FOR-PROFIT INCUBATOR PRIME PRODUCE LIMITED, THAT HELPS ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED, UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITY, AND FEMALE PRE-LAW STUDENTS ACQUIRE AND UTILIZE LAW DEGREES FOR CONSCIENTIOUS CAREERS IN LAW. OUR GOAL IS TO EFFECT POSITIVE AND SOCIAL CHANGE AND WE DO THIS BY: OFFERING LSAT PREP, ADMISSIONS WORKSHOPS, AND BUILDING A NETWORK OF PUBLIC INTEREST MINDED INDIVIDUALS AT LOW COST OR FOR FREE. THIS YEARS 10-WEEK FELLOWSHIP INCLUDED 12 FELLOWS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY, REPRESENTING 4 DIFFERENT TIME ZONES. HELD ENTIRELY OVER ZOOM, FELLOWS DOVE INTO INTENSE LSAT PREP BETWEEN JUNE AND AUGUST, WORKING IN SMALL GROUPS TO REVIEW QUESTIONS AND REFINE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THE TEST WHILE ALSO BUILDING COMMUNITY WITH ONE ANOTHER. FROM 10AM-5PM ET, MON-FRI THEY STUDIED QUESTION TYPES AND TEST TAKING STRATEGIES THROUGH OUT CURRICULUM SPONSOR 7SAGE. EACH FRIDAY, ALL FELLOWS PARTICIPATED IN OUR SUMMER SPEAKER SERIES WHERE PUBLIC INTEREST LEGAL PROFESSIONALS AND PPB ALUMNI WOULD SPEAK TO FELLOWS ABOUT THEIR CURRENT WORK AND THEIR PERSONAL JOURNEYS THROUGH THE PROGRAM AND LAW SCHOOL. THIS WAS AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FIRST-HAND WHAT TYPE OF LAW FELLOWS COULD SEE THEMSELVES PRACTICING AND BUILDING CONNECTIONS WITH THE LARGER PPB COMMUNITY. ALONG WITH LSAT PREP, FELLOWS WERE PROVIDED ADMISSIONS GUIDANCE, INCLUDING WORKSHOPS TAILORED TO REQUESTING A FEE WAIVER OR ACCOMMODATIONS, PERSONAL STATEMENT AND DIVERSITY WRITING, RESUME FORMATTING, APPLICATION TIMELINE, AND HOW TO CHOOSE LAW SCHOOLS. FELLOWS WERE ALSO PROVIDED INFORMATION ON POTENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS THEY MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THROUGHOUT THE FELLOWSHIP. ALL FELLOWS RECEIVED 1-1 MEETINGS ON A WEEKLY BASIS WITH PROGRAM DIRECTORS TO HELP ASSES PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THE COURSE AND HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON BOTH LSAT PREP AND ADMISSIONS ANSWERED. TO HELP ENGAGE COMMUNITY, FELLOWS WERE NOTIFIED OF UPCOMING EVENTS IN THE WIDER PRIME PRODUCE ECOSYSTEM, INCLUDING TURTLE THURSDAYS, NOODLE NIGHTS, AND PANEL EVENTS FOR SISTER ORGANIZATIONS.
OCB IS AN INVITATION TO RESPOND TO WHAT IS EMERGING IN OUR SOCIAL BODY. WE ARE PASSIONATELY COMMITTED TO THE ETHICS AND POLITICS OF EN CONJUNTO (DEEP TOGETHERNESS). WE LAUNCHED OUR APP ON MIGHTY NETWORKS AND HAVE CLOSE TO 100 PEOPLE IN THE APP, ALREADY. WE WILL BE HOSTING COURSES AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION IN THE APP AND HOPE TO GROW THE APP IN THE COMING YEAR. AS PART OF THE APP CONTENT, WE CREATED A FILM ABOUT SHARED LEADERSHIP AND THE POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF EMERGENCE. WE HELD A RETREAT AND 20 PEOPLE CAME FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! WE PLAN TO HOST A YEARLY RETREAT IN NORTH CAROLINA TO FURTHER NURTURE ANOTHER POSSIBLE WORLD. WE HAVE OVER 21K PEOPLE SUBSCRIBED TO OUR SUBSTACK AND THAT LIST IS GROWING EVERY DAY!
