ENGAGE AT-RISK YOUTHS THAT HAVE HAD DIFFICULTY NAVIGATING THE PATHS OF TRADITIONAL SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL,AND JUDICIAL SYSTEMS IN UNDERSTANDING AND OBTAINING MAINSTREAM SKILL COMPETENCY LEVELS AND SOCIAL VALUES THAT WOULD EMPOWER THEM TO INTERACT IN THEIR COMMUNITY, SCHOOL OR JOB SETTING SUCCESSFULLY.

S.T.A.R.T - TWO HOUR ELEMENTARY AFTER SCHOOL CURRICULUM WHICH FOCUSES ON TECHNIQUES THAT SUPPORT ACADEMIC RETENTION AND PROGRESSION. APPROXIMATELY, 50 TO 70 STUDENTS ARE ASSISTED BY TRAINED COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOLL STUDENTS IN THE TUTORIAL PROCESS TO ENGSGE THEM IN THE HOMEWORK COMPREHENSION AND COMPLETION. WORKSHOPS CONSIST OF A WIDE RANGE OF CORE ACADEMIC SUBJECTS AS WELL AS BASIC LIFE SKILLS SUCH AS THE VALUE OF NUTRITION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION STRATEGIES. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES SUCH AS GAMES, MOVIES, MUSEUM/THEATER VISITS, AND PARTIES ACT AS ACCOMPLISHMENT BASED INCENTIVES TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ALSO HAVE FUN.
SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMY (FORMERLY KNOWN AS R.E.A.L. CAMP) SERVES APPROXIMATELY 100 1ST TO 5TH GRADE STUDENTS DURING JULY AND AUGUST EACH YEAR. 50% OF THE YOUTH TIME IS PARTICIPATION IN A NY STATE SUMMER REDING PROGRAM, COMPLETING SUMMER STUDY INITIATIVE PACKETS, LEARN AND ENGAGE IN CORNELL UNIVERSITY'S DEVELOPMENTAL ASSENT, LIFE, AND SOCIAL SKILLS PLANNING TECHNIQUES DERIVED FROM R.E.A.L. START CURRICULUM.
PEER MENTORS - 50 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS 14 TO 17 YEAR OLD STUDY TO BECOME CERTIFIED MENTORS WITH TRAINING FROM THE MEDIATION CENTER OF DUTCHEDD COUNTY, NYS ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PEER COUNSELING AND PLANNED PARENTHOOD SAFE OR SORRY PROGRAMS, THIS OCCURS 3 DAYS PER WEEK AFTER SCHOOL FOR 2.5 HOURS EACH DAY. EACH STUDENT UPON COMPLETION OF ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION WILL THEN BE REQUIRED TO MENTOR ONE ELEMENTARY SCHOLL CHILD.
