SAINT VINCENT MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE (SVMG)IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING ACUTE MEDICAL CARE SERVICES TO THE ERIE AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, COLOR, RELIGION, OR ANY INDIVIDUAL'S ABILITY TO PAY THE SERVICES PROVIDED. UNCOMPENSATED CARE TO ENHANCE THE HEALTH STATUS OF THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH IT OPERATES AND CONSISTENT WITH ITS TAX-EXEMPT STATUS, SVMG PROVIDES NEEDED HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY FOR ALL OR PART OF THE SERVICES RENDERED. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE BOTH INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT SERVICES AS WELL AS ACCESS TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM THAT IS AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY. THE COMPONENTS OF UNCOMPENSATED CARE INCLUDE CHARITY CARE AND UNREIMBURSED COSTS OF MEDICAID. SVMG PROVIDED UNCOMPENSATED CARE AT A COST OF $3,817,564 FROM JANUARY, 2014 TO DECEMBER, 2014. COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT SERVICES AND COMMUNITY BENEFIT OPERATIONS INCLUDE ACTIVITIES INTENDED TO IMPROVE COMMUNITY HEALTH. THEY EXTEND BEYOND PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES AND ARE SUBSIDIZED BY SVMG. THE PROGRAMS RANGED FROM COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION TO FREE CLINICS AND SCREENINGS, AND SERVING ON COMMUNITY BOARDS. SVMG PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT SERVICES AND COMMUNITY BENEFIT OPERATIONS DURING JANUARY, 2014 TO DECEMBER, 2014 AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $42,327. MEDICAL LECTURES/PRESENTATIONS - SVMG PHYSICIANS PRESENTED ON VARIOUS HEALTH TOPICS AND THEN CONDUCTED QUESTION & ANSWER SESSIONS IN VARIOUS PUBLIC FORUMS. LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS WERE GIVEN ON LOCAL CABLE TV, LOCAL RADIO, SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS. HEALTH FAIRS/SCREENINGS - THE SVMG MEDICAL STAFF PROVIDED FREE BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS, PREVENTATIVE GYNECOLOGICAL EXAMS, HEART HEALTH MONITORING TIPS AND ANSWERED VARIOUS HEALTH RELATED QUESTIONS AT DIFFERENT COMMUNITY CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE JANUARY, 2014 TO DECEMBER, 2014 PERIOD. SVMG PROVIDES HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WITH EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO ADVANCE THEIR CAREERS IN HEALTHCARE. SVMG PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING HEALTH EDUCATION SESSIONS DURING JANUARY, 2014 TO DECEMBER, 2014 PERIOD AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $364,029. PHYSICIANS & EXTENDERS TEACH RESIDENTS AND MEDICAL STUDENTS AT FREE CLINICS AND INTERNAL MEDICINE PRIMARY CARE SETTINGS. THESE STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO INTERACT WITH THE SVMG PHYSICIANS AND THEY EXPERIENCE VALUABLE LESSONS IN HEALTHCARE FIELD. COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES ARE ACTIVITIES WITH THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING OR PROTECTING THE HEALTH, FUTURE AND WELLBEING OF THE COMMUNITY. SVMG PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES DURING THE JANUARY, 2014 TO DECEMBER, 2014 PERIOD AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $64,359. BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP - SEVERAL SVMG PHYSICIANS SIT ON COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARDS AND COUNCILS. THESE INCLUDE SAINT VINCENT FOUNDATION, RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE, ERIE PHILHARMONIC, AND VARIOUS RELIGIOUS BOARDS. OTHER COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES - VARIOUS SVMG PHYSICIANS PARTICIPATED IN DONATING THEIR TIME AT THE CITY MISSION, BEING THE DOCTOR ON CALL FOR DIFFERENT SCHOOL SPORTING EVENTS, AND IN VARIOUS CHURCH PROGRAM ACTIVITIES.
