THE MUSEUM BOLDLY INTERWEAVES EXHIBITIONS, PERFORMANCES, COLLECTIONS, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO EXCITE, CHALLENGE AND ILLUMINATE OUR NEIGHBORS, VISITORS, AND PARTICIPANTS WHILE PROVIDING INSIGHT INTO OUR ART, HISTORY, CULTURE, AND HERITAGE.

LEGACY MUSEUM PROGRAMMING: THE PORTLAND MUSEUM CELEBRATES THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF PORTLAND, KY, THROUGH PUBLIC PROGRAMMING, ART, EXHIBITIONS, COLLECTIONS, RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS, AND THE HENRIETTA HELM LEGACY ENDOWMENT THAT SUPPORTA UOFL'S LOUISVILLE TEACHER RESIDENCY PROGRAM. PROGRAMS INCLUDE VARIOUS NEIGHBORHOOD EVENTS AND FORUMS PROMOTING EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY. ART AND HISTORY EXHIBITIONS ROTATE, BRINGING WITH THEM RELEVANT EVENTS AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS. COLLECTION MANAGEMENT IS THE CARE AND STORAGE OF COLLECTIONS, CATALOGING AND STORING MATERIALS, AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD. RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE ON-SITE LETTER-PRESSED MATERIALS BASED ON OUR ARCHIVE AND NEIGHBORHOOD'S ART, CULTURE, AND HISTORY. THE HENRIETTA HELM ENDOWMENT HONORS PORTLAND'S FIRST BLACK FEMALE TEACHER AND PRINCIPAL BY PROVIDING FUNDS YEARLY TO A BIPOC STUDENT OF THE LOUISVILLE TEACHER RESIDENCY PROGRAM EDUCATION.
AHOY MUSEUM CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PROGRAMMING AND MISSION: CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FOR LOUISVILLE'S FIRST CHILDREN'S MUSEUM CALLED AHOY, ADVENTURE HOUSE OF YOU. PORTLAND MUSEUM'S ADVENTURE HOUSE OF YOU (AHOY) IS A HEARTFELT, PROGRESSIVE EFFORT TO TACKLE ONE OF THE REGION'S MOST PRESSING CHALLENGES: IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE AND ACCESS TO ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY. THIS INITIATIVE PUTS FORTH AN INNOVATIVE NEW APPROACH TO INNER-CITY REVITALIZATION; AHOY PROMOTES A SPACE FOR THE IMAGINATION OF PORTLAND'S CHILDREN.A BOLDLY INCLUSIVE VISION CAN BE THE CATALYST FOR STIMULATING GROWTH AND REAL OPPORTUNITIES. AHOY IS A HOMEGROWN VERSION OF THE IMMERSIVE PLAY MOVEMENT THAT IS SWEEPING THE WORLD. UNITY CAN BE CREATED FOR OUR CITY THROUGH THE INNATE HUMAN DESIRE TO PRESERVE AND PROMOTE OUR YOUTH. WE DISTILLED THAT INFORMATION INTO A FUNDRAISING BOOK FOR THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN WITH A DESIGN AND FABRICATION FIRM. ADVENTURE HOUSE OF YOU ENCOURAGES QUESTIONING, AND THROUGH INDEPENDENT EXPLORATION CHILDREN WILL FIND THE ANSWERS. AHOY WILL TAKE A "SCAVENGER HUNT" APPROACH TO EDUCATIONAL CONTENT, ENCOURAGING VISITORS TO SLOW DOWN AND DIVE INTO THE DETAILS OF EACH CONSTRUCTED DISPLAY ENVIRONMENT. ACTIVITY BOOKLETS FOR STUDENT-AGED VISITORS AND GRADE-SPECIFIC TEACHER GUIDES WILL HELP CONNECT WITH EDUCATIONAL CORE CONTENT, THUS EMPOWERING TEACHERS AND PARENTS AND ALLOWING AHOY TO SERVE ITS COMMUNITY BETTER.
