CONTINUED OUR ALREADY CONSIDERABLE EMPHASIS ON MAINTENANCE AND RESTOR- ATION OF THIS 81-YEAR-OLD WW II NAVY SUBMARINE. EXTERIOR WORK INCLUDES PAINTING, REPLACING DETERIORATED WOOD AND STEEL, INSTALLATION OF A DEDICATED ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM TO SIMPLIFY ELECTRICAL WELDING REPAIRS. INTERIOR RESTORATION INCLUDES CONTINUATION OF DECK FLOORING REPLACEMENT AND REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENT OF WORN SURFACES.


OUR ANNUAL DUTCH FRIENDSHIP DAY THAT HONORS USS COD'S 1945 RESCUE OF THE CREW OF THE DUTCH SUBMARINE O-19 ACHIEVED EXCELLENT MEDIA AND PUBLIC OUTREACH. USS COD PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL DISPLAYS AT SEVERAL PUBLIC EXHIBITIONS AND FESTIVALS WITH THE RESULT OF INCREASED PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE MEMORIAL AND INCREASED GATE TRAFFIC. WE CONTINUED TO HOLD OUR PEARL HARBOR DAY EVENT AND VETERAN LUNCHEON AND PARTICIPATED IN THE ANNUAL VETERANS DAY PARADE AND ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE.


OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH CONTINUES WITH INCREASED OFF-SITE LECUTURES PROVIDED BY MYSELF AND OTHER STAFF MEMBERS. THESE EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT SCHOOLS, SOCIAL CLUBS, LIBRARIES, AND VETERANS HOMES. LAUNCHED A YOUTUBE CHANNEL TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL AND PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS ABOUT USS COD AND WWII SUBMARINES IN GENERAL. THE CHANNEL IS THE LARGEST AMONG MEMORIAL SUBMARINES AND HAS REACHED MORE THAN 1 MILLION VIEWS IN ITS FIRST YEAR.
