Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE PRIMARY MISSION OF OUR ORGANIZATION, PRESERVATION OF USS COD, WAS FRONT &D CENTER THIS YEAR AS WE TOOK THE 77-YEAR-OLD SUBMARINE INTO A SHIPYARD FOR HER FIRST UNDERWATER HULL RENNOVATION IN 58 YEARS. THE HULL EXHIBITED CONSIDERABLE CORROSION IN HER TORPEDO TUBE AREAS & REQUIRED EXTENSIVE REBUILD OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE IN THESE AREAS & ALONG HER WATERLINE. A MODERN HIGH-TECH HULL COATING WAS INSTALLED. TOTAL COST EXCEEDED $1.2 MILLION WITH $38M PAID IN THE PRIOR FY. OUR $395,050 SAVE AMERICAS TREASURES GRANT FUNDS WERE RECEIVED IN MAY 2022 ASIDE FROM THE $1-MILLION SPENT AT THE SHIPYARD, MAJOR EXPENDITURES INCLUDED TOWING, BALLAST TANK CLEANING, INSURANCE & TRAVEL. IN ADDIT- ION TO THE DRYDOCKING, OTHER RESTORATION/MAINTENANCE OCCURRED AS WELL.

OUR PROGRAMMING AND OUTREACH WERE LARGELY HAMPERED BY THE SUBMARINE IN DRYDOCK. HOWEVER WE WERE ABLE TO SUPPORT MEMORIAL DAY AND LABOR DAY EVENTS AND OFFSITE TALKS BEFORE AND AFTER OUR RETURN FROM DRYDOCK.

USS COD'S ABSENCE FROM CLEVELAND WHILE IN DRYDOCK CURTAILED MUCH OF OUR TRADITIONAL EVENTS. HOWEVER WE CONDUCTED IN-DRYDOCK OPENHOUSES FOR OUR CREW, VETERANS GROUPS, AS PUBLIC OUTREACH IN CLEVELAND AS WELL AS ERIE, PA, WHERE COD WAS IN DRYDOCK FOR 62 DAYS.
