MISSION STATEMENT: YAMHILL COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY (YCHS) IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC SERVICE ORGANIZATION ENGAGED TO PROTECT, PRESERVE AND SHARE THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF YAMHILL COUNTY, OREGON

THE SOCIETY MAINTAINS A HISTORICAL MUSEUM IN LAFAYETTE, OR, AND A LARGER MUSEUM COMPLEX WEST OF MCMINNVILLE, OR, THE COUNTY SEAT. THESE MUSEUMS ACT AS REPOSITORIES FOR ARTIFACTS, ARTICLES AND FAMILY HISTORY, SERVICING APPROXIMATELY 6000 VISITORS PER YEAR. THE SOCIETY REACHES OUT TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH ITS NEWSLETTER, SCHOOL AND CIVIC PRESENTATIONS, AND ORAL HISTORY PROJECTS. AT THE YAMHILL VALLEY HERITAGE CENTER WEST OF MCMINNVILLE, THE SOCIETY HOLDS A FARM FESTIVAL IN THE SPRING, WHERE A CROP IS SOWN WITH ANTIQUE EQUIPMENT. IN THE FALL THE CROP IS HARVESTED DURING THE HARVEST FESTIVAL, AGAIN WITH HISTORIC MACHINERY AND METHODS. DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON, THE SOCIETY SPONSORS A "HAND-MADE HOLIDAYS" FESTIVAL FEATURING LOCAL ARTS AND CRAFTS FOR PURCHASE AS GIFTS, AS WELL AS DISPLAYS OF ITS COLLECTIONS OF HISTORIC MEMORABILIA AND EQUIPMENT. ALL OF THESE EVENTS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
