Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE OLD CHURCH CONCERT HALL IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND ATTRACTS OVER 85,000 VISITORS ANNUALLY. WE ARE A NON-RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION WITH A DUAL MISSION: TO PRESERVE AND CELEBRATE THIS HISTORICAL AND VITAL ARCHITECTURAL CARPENTER GOTHIC STRUCTURE WHICH WAS BUILT IN 1882; AND MAKE THE MOST OF ITS UNIQUE ATTRIBUTES AS PERFORMANCE SPACE BY CREATING AND FOSTERING PROGRAMS THAT ENHANCE THE ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY. 2021 MARKED OUR 53 RD YEAR OF OFFERING FREE LUNCHTIME CONCERTS, PARTICULARLY BENEFITING LOW-INCOME MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, SENIORS, AND THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. IF WE HAD BEEN ABLE TO MEET SAFELY WE WOULD HAVE CELEBRATED THE NINTH YEAR OF OUR FREE "LITTLE EARS" CONCERTS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN IN 2021 (WE HOPE TO RESUME THE PROGRAM IN 2022). CULTURALLY DIVERSE PROGRAMMING OF ALL KINDS OF MUSIC FROM AROUND THE NATION AND WORLD, AND DISCOUNTED RENTAL RATES MAKES US AN INCUBATOR FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS AND A RESOURCE FOR TEACHERS AND LOCAL PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, MUCH OF OUR REGULAR 2021 IN PERSON PROGRAMMING WAS PUT ON HOLD DUE TO THE COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC WHICH RESULTED IN OUR BUILDING CLOSING UNTIL SEPTEMBER 4, 2021 WHEN WE RESTARTED IN PERSON PROGRAMMING. IN 2021 WE ALSO RECORDED AND SHOWCASED LOCAL ARTISTS ON COMMUNITY TELEVISION, AS WELL AS CREATED AN OUTDOOR CONCERT SERIES. WE PROTECT THIS HISTORIC TREASURE BY MAINTAINING ITS DISTINCTIVE ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES, SUCH AS THE POVEY BROTHERS STAINED GLASS AND THE ORIGINAL HOOK AND HASTINGS PIPE ORGAN, NOW THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE CITY.
