DELTA FESTIVAL BALLET'S ANNUAL HOLIDAY SEASON OFFERING OF THE NUTCRACKER IS THE COMPANY'S CORNERSTONE AND SINGLE PROGRAM SERVICE. NUTCRACKER WAS HELD ON DECEMBER 19TH AND 20TH, 2020 AT THE NORTHSHORE HARBOR CENTER IN SLIDELL, LOUISIANA. BEGUN IN 1981 AND INTERUPTED ONLY ONCE IN 2005 BY HURRICANE KATRINA, DELTA'S ANNUAL PRESENTATION OF THE NUTCRACKER IS THE MOST LAVISH PRODUCTION IN THE NEW ORLEANS AREA, WITH A CAST OF MORE THAN 100 DANCERS, ELABORATE SETS AND BEAUTIFUL COSTUMES. DELTA'S IS ALSO THE ONLY PRODUCTION OF THE NUTCRAKER IN THE AREA USING LIVE MUSIC PROVIDED BY THE LOUISIANA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA. THE PRODUCTION'S QUALITY IS ROUNDED OUT BY THE ARTISTRY OF ACCLAIMED PROFESSIONAL DANCERS. THIRTEEN PROFESSIONAL DANCERS PERFORMED THE PRINCIPAL ROLES. THE CAST IS ROUNDED OUT WITH STUDENT DANCERS AGES 6 TO 18 CHOSEN THROUGH OPEN AUDITIONS. THIS ALLOWS ASPIRING DANCERS THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM ALONGSIDE ACCOMPLISHED PROFESSIONALS.
