THE ART ASSOCIATION OF HARRISBURG (AAH) SCHOOL SERVES APPROXIMATELY 400 STUDENTS ANNUALLY, BOTH ADULTS AND YOUTH. CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN: POTTERY, SCULPTURE, DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, FIGURE DRAWING, DRAWING, OIL PAINTING, ACRYLICS, WATERCOLOUR, OPEN STUDIO, AND LANDSCAPE PAINTING. CLASSES ARE OFFERED IN FOUR SEMESTERS ANNUALLY, BOTH IN STUDIOS AT THE MAIN BUILDING AT 21 N. FRONT ST., AND IN FOUR STUDIOS IN RESERVOIR PARK. INSTRUCTORS ARE ALL INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS, AND PRACTICING PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PRESENTED TO STUDENTS WITH FINANCIAL NEED IN ORDER TO ATTEND AAH CLASSES.
AAH PRESENTS 10 EXHIBITIONS ANNUALLY IN THE HISTORIC MANSION ON FRONT STREET: 2 MEMBERSHIP SHOWS WITH UP TO 200 PARTICIPATING ARTISTS, SIX INVITATIONAL EXHIBITIONS WITH 1 TO 4 ARTISTS EACH, AN INTERNATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION, AND A COMBINED MEMBER/STUDENT EXHIBITION. ADDITIONALLY, AAH PRESENTS 64 ROTATING EXHIBITIONS IN 15 COMMUNITY BUSINESSES AND UNIVERSITIES.
THE ART ASSOCIATION MANSION HOUSES THREE CLASSROOM/STUDIOS, FIVE EXHIBITION GALLERIES, AND A SMALL GALLERY TO PROVIDE SPACE FOR ARTISTS TO MARKET THEIR WORKS. THE GALLERIES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 7 DAYS PER WEEK, WITH NO ADMISSION CHARGE. GALLERY HOURS ARE: 9:30 AM TO 9 PM MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, 9:30 AM TO 4 PM FRIDAY, 10 AM TO 4 PM SATURDAY, AND 2 TO 5 PM SUNDAY. THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES FREE CAREER COUNSELING TO ARTISTS, AND STRIVES TO PROMOTE ALL ARTISTS' WORKS TO THE PUBLIC. AAH FOUNDED HARRISBURG GALLERY WALK 34 YEARS AGO AND ORGANIZES IT ANNUALLY AS A FREE WALKING/DRIVING TOUR OF HARRISBURG EXHIBITION SITES. FOR 2021, 20 VENUES PARTICIPATED. THE ART ASSOCIATION MAINTAINS A PERMANENT COLLECTION OF WORKS DONATED BY ARTISTS AND COLLECTORS OVER THE COURSE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S EXISTENCE, WHICH IS PERIODICALLY EXHIBITED TO THE PUBLIC.
