MORRIS ARTS' MISSION IS TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS WITH ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY ARTS EVENTS, SUPPORT OF LOCAL ARTISTS AND ORGANIZATIONS AND ADVOCACY FOR FUNDING FOR THE ARTS.

ARTS IN EDUCATION: THROUGH THE ARTS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM, WE SERVE A DIVERSE RANGE OF SCHOOLS CONNECTING THEM TO ASSEMBLIES, WORKSHOPS, AND CUSTOMIZED ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAMS IN THE VISUAL ARTS, DANCE, MUSIC, POETRY, THEATRE, CREATIVE WRITING, STORYTELLING, FILMMAKING, AND ENVIRONMENTAL ARTS. TWENTY-FIVE RESIDENCIES TOOK PLACE IN PERSON IN FY2022. HER WORDS, A PROGRAM FOR TEEN GIRLS AT RISK, WAS ALSO BACK IN PERSON FOR THE ENTIRE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR. OUR OTHER PROGRAM FOR AT RISK TEENS, YOUNG ARTISTS MENTORING PROGRAM, MET IN PERSON FOR 20 SESSIONS FROM DECEMBER 2021 THROUGH APRIL 19, 2022
ARTS PARTICIPATION AND ADVOCACYARTS PARTICIPATION AND ADVOCACY INITIATIVES CREATE AND PRESENT INNOVATIVE CULTURAL EVENTS THAT INTRODUCE THE ARTS TO LARGE AND DIVERSE AUDIENCES IN NON-TRADITIONAL VENUES AND SETTINGS. BECAUSE OF THE RESCHEDULING MADE NECESSARY BY COVID, TWO GIRALDA MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVALS WERE HELD IN FY2021 (AUGUST 2021 AND JUNE 2022) ENTERTAINING CLOSE TO 2,000 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. OTHER ANNUAL EVENTS LIKE MEET ME IN MORRISTOWN AND PUMPKIN ILLUMINATIONS WERE ALSO LIVE AGAIN IN FY2022. IN MARCH, 2022, MORRIS ARTS AWARDED $6,500 IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO TWO AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BASED ON ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE. MORRIS ARTS ADVOCATED LOCALLY, REGIONALLY AND NATIONALLY FOR THE ARTS COMMUNITY AND CONTINUED TO COMMUNICATE AND INFORM ITS CONSTITUENTS OF LOCAL ARTS EVENTS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ARTS.
LOCAL ARTS :MORRIS ARTS CONTINUED ITS STRONG SUPPORT OF LOCAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS WITH OVER $135,510 IN REGRANTS WITH FUNDS FROM THE NEA AND THE NJSCA. THIS LEVEL OF INCREASED SUPPORT WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY A FUNDING INCREASE FROM THE NJSCA. MORRIS ARTS ALSO PURCHASED NEW SOFTWARE TO MANAGE THE GRANT PROCESS, MAKING IT EASIER FOR ORGANIZATIONS TO APPLY TO THE PROGRAM.
