THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS DOING WHAT MATTERS FOR OUR COMMUNITY; TO SERVE AS A CATALYST, LEADER AND/OR PARTNER FOR COMMUNITY EFFORTS TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS, REDUCE NEED, AND HAVE A POSITIVE MEASURABLE IMPACT ON IDENTIFIED AREAS OF CONCERN; TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR RESIDENTS OF THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR PROGRAMS, PROJECTS, ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR AGENCIES THAT POSITIVELY IMPACT HEALTH, WELFARE, AND CHARACTER- BUILDING NEEDS. GREATER SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY UNITED WAY IS A CHANNEL TO FUNDING AND RESOURCES FOR PROGRAMS SERVING RESIDENTS OF NORTHUMBERLAND, SNYDER AND UNION COUNTIES THAT LEAD TO MEASURABLE IMPROVEMENTS IN PEOPLE'S LIVES AND COMMUNITY CONDITIONS. FUNDED PROGRAMS - SUPPORT FOR PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES TARGETING SOLUTIONS FOR SIX IDENTIFIED ISSUES: EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, DRUG & ALCOHOL ABUSE, ACCEPTANCE OF DIVERSITY, AT-RISK TEENS AND POVERTY. TO MEET IDENTIFIED COMMUNITY GOALS, UNITED WAY CONVENES REGULAR TRAININGS AND MEETINGS ON EXPECTED STANDARDS AND OUTCOMES, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR NETWORKING WITH OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND THE COMMUNITY-AT-LARGE. ALLIANCE FUND - RESOURCES DEDICATED TO HELPING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WITH UTILITY BILLS IN THE CITY OF SUNBURY AND IN UNION COUNTY. EARLY CHILDHOOD COALITION - FOCUSED AWARENESS EFFORTS WITH DEDICATED STAFF ON THE IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY EARLY CHILD EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES BY CREATING A NETWORK OF ADVOCATES, PROVIDING EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEER RESOURCES TO QUALITY EARLY CHILDCARE INITIATIVES; INSPIRING LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY AMONG THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY OF NORTHUMBERLAND, SNYDER AND UNION COUNTIES; PROVIDING CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS; AND ADMINISTERING PROGRAMS TARGETED AT IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF CARE FOR ALL CHILDREN IN OUR SERVICE AREA SO THAT EVERY YOUNG CHILD BEGINS KINDERGARTEN READY TO LEARN. A COLLABORATION OF UNITED WAY, EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSIONALS, SCHOOL DISTRICTS, COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND FAMILIES WHICH ALL HAVE STAKE IN THE EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF EVERY CHILD. THROUGH REASEARCH, WE KNOW THAT 90% OF THE BRAIN DEVELOPS BY AGE FIVE AND THAT QUALITY EARLY EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES GIVE THE CHILDREN THE FOUNDATION THEY NEED TO LATER SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND IN LIFE.
