Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
A MISSION OF HISTORY, EDUCATION, AND REMEMBRANCE ABOUT THE GREAT BERLIN AIRLIFT OF 1948/1949 BY PROVIDING A MUSEUM/EXHIBIT INSIDE A FLYABLE DOUGLAS C-54 TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE BERLIN AIRLIFT HISTORICAL FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO HAVE ONE PROGRAM SERVICE. AS STATED IN THE FOUNDATION'S ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION, THE FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO PRESERVING THE MEMORY AND ALLIANCE OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES, GREAT BRITAIN, FRANCE, AND GERMANY WHO CONDUCTED THE GREATEST HUMANITARIAN OPERATION IN AVIATION HISTORY, AND THEREBY SUSTAINED THE BESIEGED CITY OF BERLIN FROM JUNE 1948 TO MAY 1949. THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO ACCOMPLISH THIS PROGRAM SERVICE BY DISPLAYING A DOUGLAS C-54 TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT NAMED THE "SPIRIT OF FREEDOM" AS A MUSEUM/EXHIBIT FOR THE PURPOSE OF HISTORY, EDUCATION, AND REMEMBRANCE. THIS REPORTING PERIOD WAS A TRAGIC AND DEVASTATING TIME FOR THE BERLIN AIRLIFT HISTORICAL FOUNDATION. DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, ALL OF THE PUBLIC EVENTS TO FULFILL OUR PROGRAM SERVICE MISSION WERE CANCELLED. THEN ON APRIL 13, 2020, OUR DOUGLAS C-54 "SPIRIT OF FREEDOM" WAS DESTROYED BY A TORNADO WHILE PARKED AT WALTERBORO, SC. I'M HAPPY TO REPORT WE DID MANAGE TO LOCATE AND PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT DOUGLAS C-54 AND HAVE BEEN WORKING HARD TO INSPECT IT AND MAKE IT AIRWORTHY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FEDERAL AVIATION REGULATIONS AND THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION. OUR OTHER AIRPLANE, A RARE BOEING C-97G REMAINS PARKED AT READING, PA, REQUIRING A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON THIS ISSUE.
