Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE COALITION ENGAGED IN THE POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN WHICH UNITED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM AROUND NYS AND THE NATION TO COMBAT RACISM, POVERTY, MILITARISM, AND ECOLOGICAL DEVASTATION. WE BUILT LEADERS WHO ARE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO CREATE A WORLD WHERE ALL ARE WELCOME AND DEMAND THAT OUR POLITICIANS DO THE SAME.
WE HAVE DONE WORK THIS YEAR TO END THE EXTRACTIVE ECONOMY AND TO BRING TOGETHER WORKERS, COMMUNITY, AND FAITH GROUPS TO THINK THROUGH WHAT IT MEANS TO CREATE A COMMUNITY THAT CARES FOR PEOPLE, PLANET, AND PLACE. THIS HAS COME TOGETHER MOST VIVIDLY IN OUR WORK WITH BUFFALO TRANSIT RIDERS UNITED (BTRU) TO HOLD THE NIAGARA FRONTIER TRANSIT AUTHORITY ACCOUNTABLE BOTH TO ITS RIDERS AS WELL AS ITS DRIVERS. WE WORKED TO ENSURE RIDER REPRESENTATION ON THE NFTA BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT THE PEOPLE CLOSEST TO THE PROBLEM ARE THE CLOSEST TO THE SOLUTION AND SHOULD HAVE REAL POWER TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE.
