Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

AS A PARTNER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA COUNCIL ON THE ARTS, PCCA PLACES PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS IN SCHOOL CLASSROOMS IN SEVEN COUNTIES: PERRY, JUNIATA, MIFFLIN, SNYDER, UNION, NORTHUMBERLAND AND MONTOUR. THESE HIGH QUALITY, INNOVATIVE ARTS RESIDENCIES ARE IMPLEMENTED OVER SPANS OF 2-15 WEEKS. SOME RESIDENCIES ARE CREATED TO MEET THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF STUDENTS WITHIN A SCHOOL DISTRICT. OTHERS, DESIGNED BY PCCA STAFF, BECOME ELEMENTS OF LARGER COMMUNITY BUILDING INITIATIVES SUCH AS THE QUILT BARN TRAIL AND THE CREATION OF HISTORIC MURALS.

LANDIS HOUSE IS A 5,000 SQUARE FOOT MANSION BEQUEATHED TO THE PCCA BY THE ESTATE OF MARY M. LANDIS IN 2007. AFTER EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS, THE MANSION NOW HOUSES PCCA'S OFFICES AND ACTS AS A VENUE FOR RECITALS, CLASSES AND EXHIBITIONS OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND ARTIFACTS FROM THE LANDIS COLLECTION.

THE PCCA GALLERY, ON THE SQUARE IN DOWNTOWN NEWPORT, SHOWCASES THE FINE ART AND CRAFTS OF MORE THAN 150 MEMBER ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE REGION. APPROXIMATELY HALF OUR ARTISTS AND CUSTOMERS HAIL FROM OUTSIDE THE COUNTY. THE GALLERY SPEARHEADS NUMEROUS COMMUNITY INITIATIVES IN COLLABORATION WITH DOWNTOWN MERCHANTS. EACH YEAR THE GALLERY OFFERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR ARTISTS INTERESTED IN IMPROVING THEIR ECONOMIC VIABILITY.

THE COUNCIL IS INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH MANY OTHER PROGRAMS, CLASSES AND OUTREACH PROJECTS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: WRITER'S GROUPS, KIDS ARTSFEST, SUNDAY ARTS HOUR AND OUTREACH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
