WHARTON ARTS IS NEW JERSEY'S LARGEST NON-PROFIT PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION ORGANIZATION SERVING 1,500 STUDENTS OF ALL AGES, BACKGROUNDS, AND ABILITIES THROUGH A RANGE OF CLASSES AND ENSEMBLES. COMPRISED OF NEW JERSEY YOUTH SYMPHONY, PATERSON MUSIC PROJECT, AND PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOLS, WHARTON ARTS STRIVES TO MAKE PERFORMING ARTS ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY - INCLUDING TODDLERS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CLASSES, AT-RISK YOUTH IN AFTER SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAMS, NEW JERSEY'S FINEST STUDENT MUSICIANS IN THE INTERNATIONALLY RENOWED YOUTH SYMPHONY, AND OLDER ADULTS IN A FREE INTERGENERATIONAL COMMUNITY CHOIR.

THE PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL (PAS) OFFERS PRIVATE AND GROUP MUSIC LESSONS IN NEARLY ALL INSTRUMENTS (PIANO, STRINGS, FLUTE, CLARINET, SAXOPHONE, TRUMPET, TROMBONE, PERCUSSION, AND HARP) AND VOICE, MUSICAL THEATER AND DRAMA CLASSES, AND SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN, TEENS, AND ADULTS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY. SERVING NEARLY 700+ INDIVIDUALS ANNUALLY, PAS WELCOMES BEGINNING STUDENTS AS WELL AS THOSE WITH ADVANCED MUSICAL ABILITIES. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION, PAS IS INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY IN MANY WAYS. OUTREACH INCLUDES OFFERING ON-SITE INSTRUCTION AT LOCAL SCHOOLS, PERFORMING AT COMMUNITY EVENTS AND FESTIVALS, AND BRINGING THE JOY OF MUSIC WEEKLY TO CHRONICALLY ILL CHILDREN IN LONG-TERM PEDIATRIC CARE.


NEW JERSEY YOUTH SYMPHONY (NJYS) IS THE PREMIER PROVIDER OF MUSICAL EDUCATION TO SOME OF THE MOST TALENTED YOUNG MUSICIANS IN NEW JERSEY. NJYS SETS THE STANDARD FOR ORCHESTRAL EXCELLENCE THROUGH ITS 15 ENSEMBLES LED BY OUR STAFF OF EXPERIENCED AND RENOWNED CONDUCTORS, MANY OF WHOM ARE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AND INTERNATIONALLY. OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ALLOWS ALL GIFTED ARTISTS TO PARTICIPATE. NJYS ENSEMBLES PERFORM AT VENUES RANGING FROM CARNEGIE HALL, THE KENNEDY CENTER, UNION COUNTY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, AND NEW JERSEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, TO LOCAL ASSISTED LIVING CENTERS. IN 2017, THE YOUTH SYMPHONY NJYS'S PREMIER ENSEMBLE WON FIRST PLACE AT THE SUMMA CUM LAUDE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL AND COMPETITION IN VIENNA. NJYS WAS THE ONLY ENSEMBLE FROM NEW JERSEY TO COMPETE.NJYS IS LOCATED IN NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ. NJYS'S 500+ STUDENTS ARE IN GRADES 3-12 AND HAIL FROM BERGEN, ESSEX, HUNTERDON, MERCER, MIDDLESEX, MONMOUTH, MORRIS, OCEAN, PASSAIC, SOMERSET, SUSSEX, AND UNION. CONCERTS TAKE PLACE AT LOCATIONS AROUND NEW JERSEY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF ARTISTIC DIRECTOR HELEN CHA-PYO.


PATERSON MUSIC PROJECT (PMP) USES MUSIC AS A VEHICLE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE EMPOWERING CHILDREN THROUGH THE COMMUNAL EXPERIENCE OF ENSEMBLE LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE. A MEMBER OF THE EL SISTEMA NEW JERSEY ALLIANCE, PMP ENABLES 250+ STUDENTS IN GRADES 1-8 FROM TITLE ONE SCHOOLS TO ENGAGE DEEPLY WITH MUSIC FOR UP TO EIGHT HOURS PER WEEK. STUDENTS STUDY A PRIMARY INSTRUMENT, PLUS MUSIC THEORY, MUSIC HISTORY, AURAL TRAINING, AND SINGING. THEY PERFORM FREQUENTLY FOR THE PATERSON COMMUNITY AND BEYOND. THIS INTENSIVE SCHEDULE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO MAKE RAPID PROGRESS ON THEIR INSTRUMENTS AND PROVIDES A POSITIVE AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT DURING OUT-OF-SCHOOL HOURS. PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH A SAFE, ENGAGING PLACE TO BE DURING OUT-OF-SCHOOL HOURS IS ESSENTIAL TO THEIR SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND LIFE. PMP TRANSFORMS THE LIVES OF STUDENTS, GENERATING PRIDE, SOLIDARITY, AND BEAUTIFUL MUSIC.
