TO FURTHER UCI'S ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE, THEATER ARTS, AND CULTURAL EDUCATION.

IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID SHUTDOWN OF LIVE THEATER PERFORMANCES, UCI PRESENTED ITS 42ND SEASON WITH A PIVOT TO A VIRTUAL PRESENTATION OF THREE PLAYS, PLAYLAND, BIOPSEE, AND BIG BUTT GIRLS, THAT WERE AVAILABLE TO A PAYING AUDIENCE THAT SUBSCRIBED TO STREAM THE EVENT. IN ADDITION TO THE THREE VIRTUAL PRODUCTIONS, UCI ALSO PRODUCED ART THAT HEALS, HAIR ON FIRE, AND A POETRY SERIES ALL PRESENTED ONLINE THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. THESE VIRTUAL EVENTS KEPT UCI CONNECTED TO ITS AUDIENCES. WE ALSO SPENT TIME IDENTIFYING AND SELECTING PLAYS FOR OUR 43RD SEASON AND USED THE TIME TO PROVIDE ACTORS AND OTHER THEATRE CREATIVES CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS TO FURTHER THEIR CRAFT DURING THE SHUTDOWN. BY PIVOTING TO VIRTUAL WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT AND CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS OF COLOR.
THE DUNBAR THEATER ARTS TRAINING ALSO PIVOTED TO DIGITAL AND PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL AND CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES AND TRAINING FOR YOUNG ARTISTS OF COLOR.
UCI CONTINUED SERVING AS A RESOURCE TO PERSONS, COMMUNITY AGENCIES, AND INSTITUTIONS SERVING NON-VIOLENCE, CULTURE, DIVERSITY, UNDERSERVED YOUTH, AND POSITIVE VALUES NECESSARY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BELOVED COMMUNITY. OTHER ARTS ORGANIZATIONS WERE GIVEN USE OF OUR REHEARSAL ROOM AND THEATRE TO ALSO PIVOT TO VIRTUAL AND TAPE THEIR SHOWS FOR FUTURE STREAMING.
