TO ENGAGE AND INSPIRE THE COMMUNITY TO INVEST IN MEETING THE DIVERSE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF EVERY BUSD STUDENT.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

IN 2020, THE BURBANK ARTS AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION (BAEF) WAS FORCED TO ADJUST ITS FUNDRAISING EFFORTS, PROGRAMS, AND OPERATIONS IN THE FACE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE FINANCIAL DATA IN THIS YEAR'S FILING ILLUSTRATES THE TREMENDOUS IMPACT THAT COVID-19 HAD ON THE BAEF'S ABILITY TO FUNDRAISE AND REFLECTS THE RESULTING TEMPORARY PAUSE IN GRANTS AND SUPPORT FOR BURBANK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (BUSD) AND ITS PROGRAMS. AS 2020 PROGRESSED, THE BUSD SHUTTERED ITS SCHOOL CAMPUSES, AND STUDENTS MOVED TO A VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THE BOARD APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED CRITICAL PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM FUNDS TO PROVIDE SOME SUPPORT FOR FURLOUGHED STAFF. DUE TO REDUCED ON-CAMPUS NEEDS, THE GRANT PROGRAM WAS PLACED ON HIATUS. WHILE THESE CHANGES MEANT A REDUCTION IN OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE BAEF TO PROVIDE SUBSTANTIAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, IT PROVIDED A CRITICAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FOUNDATION TO FOCUS ON INFRASTRUCTURE, PLANNING, AND OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. IN THE SPRING OF 2020, BAEF CELEBRATED GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS THROUGH A SOCIAL MEDIA AND PRESS CAMPAIGN, HIGHLIGHTING THE ACHIEVEMENTS AND TENACITY OF BURBANK STUDENTS DURING THIS EXTREMELY CHALLENGING TIME. THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED SEVERAL VIRTUAL COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS THAT RAISED FUNDS, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HELPED TO RETAIN STRONG CONNECTIONS TO OUR BURBANK FAMILIES. AS THE YEAR COMMENCED, BAEF LAUNCHED ITS ANNUAL YEAR-END FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN TO RE-ENGAGE THE PUBLIC IN SUPPORTING BURBANK'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND BEGAN DEVELOPING THE PROGRAM FOR A VIRTUAL STATE OF THE SCHOOL'S PRODUCTION AND LOOKING FORWARD TO A BETTER 2021. THROUGH FUTURE GRANTS, PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, BAEF WILL CONTINUE TO FURTHER ITS MISSION AND GOALS TO SUPPORT INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOLS, INCLUDING ARTS EDUCATION, STEM PROGRAMS, STUDENT SAFETY, WELLNESS, AND OTHER NEEDS WITHIN BUSD.
