AS CO-CONVENERS OF THE 6 WINS FOR SOCIAL EQUITY NETWORK WE ANCHORED ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO ENSURE THAT THE BAY AREAS NEW REGIONAL HOUSING AGENCY INCLUDED A STRATEGY TO SUPPORT THE ACQUISITION AND PRESERVATION OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING THROUGH MODELS OF PERMANENT AFFORDABILITY. OUR REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION ADVOCACY FOCUSED ON THE EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION OF ARPA FUNDING TO SUPPORT TRANSIT SERVICE RESTORATION AND TO STOP SERVICE CUTS AND FARE INCREASES.IN OAKLAND, WE DEVELOPED A POLICY THAT WOULD SUPPORT THE ABILITY OF TENANTS TO PURCHASE THEIR BUILDING WHEN THEY ARE BEING SOLD BY THEIR LANDLORDS. IN VALLEJO, WE CONTINUED TO LEAD THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE VALLEJO HOUSING JUSTICE COALITION, THROUGH WHICH WE ENGAGED IN THE CITYS UPDATE OF ITS ZONING CODE AND HELPED SECURE CAPITAL FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE ACQUISITION OF HOMES AND PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AS PART OF THE NEW VALLEJO COMMUNITY LAND TRUST. OUR LOBBYING ACTIVITIES INCLUDED MEETING WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS TO ADVOCATE FOR SUPPORT OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND ANTI-DISPLACEMENT POLICIES IN VALLEJO.
URBAN HABITAT'S BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (BCLI) TRAINS AND SUPPORTS LOW-INCOME PEOPLE OF COLOR TO SERVE ON LOCAL AND REGIONAL BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS IN THE BAY AREA. IN 2021 WE CONVENED OUR 13TH BCLI COHORT WITH 13 FELLOWS REPRESENTING VARIOUS COUNTIES IN THE BAY AREA. FOUR OF THE FELLOWS HAVE BEEN APPOINTED TO A COMMISSION. WE SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS REPLICATING THE BCLI BY HOSTING MONTHLY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CALLS, AND ORGANIZING AN ANNUAL SUMMIT THAT WAS HELD IN JULY VIA ZOOM.
