IN COOPERATION WITH THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION IN NEW YORK STATE AND MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA, THIS ASSOCIATION WILL DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN A COORDINATED CITIZENS' MOVEMENT FOR THE PROMOTION OF MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING IN TOMPKINS COUNTY. AS A TEAM OF PEER SPECIALISTS, WE DRAW ON OUR LIVED EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING TO EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND GROUPS THROUGH PEER SUPPORT, ADVOCACY, AND THE PROVISION OF SERVICES WHICH PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY, PREVENTION OF MENTAL ILLNESS, AND EARLY INTERVENTION. WE ADVOCATE FOR THE HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS ON THE COMMUNITY LEVEL THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, BARRIERS TO ACCESSING SUPPORT, AND COMBATING THE SOCIAL STIGMA AROUND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

FAMILY PEER SUPPORT SERVICES: C&F - FPSS ARE AN ARRAY OF SERVICES AND SUPPORT SYSTEMS PROVIDED TO PARENTS/CAREGIVERS RAISING A CHILD OR YOUNG ADULTS UP TO AGE 21 WHO ARE EXPERIENCING SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, ADDICTION, OR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CHALLENGES IN THEIR HOME, SCHOOL, COMMUNITY AND/OR PLACEMENT. THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERVICE IS TO SUPPORT THE PARENT/CAREGIVER AND ENHANCE THEIR SKILLS SO THEY CAN PROMOTE POSITIVE YOUTH FUNCTIONING AND THEIR CHILD'S ABILITY TO LIVE SUCCESSFULLY IN THEIR COMMUNITY.


PSYCHOSOCIAL/CSS/AFS/LA/ADV- IN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, PEERS OFFER THEIR UNIQUE LIVED EXPERIENCE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOCUSED ON ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, MENTORING, AND MOTIVATION. PEER SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY NEW YORK STATE CERTIFIED PEER SPECIALISTS (CPS). THEY MODEL RECOVERY, TEACH SKILLS AND OFFER SUPPORT TO HELP PEOPLE EXPERIENCING MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES LEAD MEANINGFUL LIVES IN THE COMMUNITY. PROGRAMS INCLUDE INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPPORT FOR YOUTH-SENIORS, FORENSIC PEER SERVICES, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY SERVICES.


RESPITE - RESPITE SERVICES MAY BE PROVIDED TO CHILDREN, AGES 5-13, WHILE THE PARENTS ARE ENGAGED IN ACTIVITY AT MHATC.
