TO ORGANIZE FAITH-BASED AND OTHER COMMUNITY INSTITUTIONS BY BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS THAT BREAK DOWN BARRIERS AND GENERATE THE NECESSARY RESOURCES TO TRANSFORM PEOPLE, CONGREGATIONS, AND COMMUNITIES FOR THE COMMON GOOD.

VOICE BUFFALO'S LIVE FREE CAMPAIGN HAS ACCOMPLISHED NOTABLE WINS IN RESPONDING TO THE RACIAL INJUSTICE THAT PLAGUES OUR COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDES SAVING THE LIVES AND THE RELEASE OF 30 INDIVIDUALS FROM THE ERIE COUNTY JAILS THAT HAD BEEN PLACED IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT WITHOUT CAUSE AND DENIED BATHROOMS AND THE RIGHT TO SHOWER FOR THREE WEEKS AND ACHIEVING POLICE REFORMS, SUCH AS REMOVING THE NATIONAL GUARD AND REPLACING THEM WITH A COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM.
AS PART OF ITS GET OUT TO VOTE EFFORTS, VOICE MADE OVER 23,000 PHONE CALLS TO VOTERS IN PREPARATION FOR THE GENERAL AND PRIMARY ELECTIONS. WE ALSO HELD THE COUNTY'S ONLY NONPARTISAN SHERIFF'S CANDIDATE FORUM AND HOSTED FOUR SOULS TO THE POLLS VOTING EVENTS BETWEEN THE TWO ELECTIONS, REACHING AN ESTIMATED 500 PEOPLE. FINALLY, IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS, WE CONDUCTED A VOTER REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON REGISTERING CURRENTLY AND FORMERLY INCARCERATED PERSONS. WE WERE ABLE TO REGISTER 800 PEOPLE.
IN THE SUMMER OF 2021, VOICE BUFFALO LAUNCHED ITS STREET CERTIFIED CAMPAIGN, A TASKFORCE OF FORMERLY INCARCERATED LEADERS AND JUSTICE IMPACTED PERSONS SUPPORTED BY THE VOICE BUFFALO'S LIVE FREE CAMPAIGN. THIS SPACE IS STEEPED IN AN UNDERSTANDING THAT FORMERLY INCARCERATED CITIZENS WHO ARE DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY EXPERIENCES IN CARCERAL AND JUSTICE SYSTEMS AND THEREFORE PROVIDES SPACE FOR RESTORATION AND HEALING, CULTIVATING PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY, EQUIPPING AND ACTIVATION FOR SELF LIBERATION, SUPPORTING THE BUILDING OF THEIR NETWORKS AND CREATING A CULTURE OF DIGNITY FOR ALL. IN 2021, STREET CERTIFIED LEADERS SPOKE AT OVER 10 EVENTS, MEETINGS AND RALLIES ABOUT THE NEEDED CHANGE IN OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM.
