CVOEO PROVIDES EMERGENCY AND LONG TERM SOLUTIONS TO POVERTY AND SOCIAL INJUSTICE. WE PROVIDE SERVICES IN FOUR COUNTIES AND WE ALSO HAVE THREE STATEWIDE PROGRAMS THAT FOCUS ON HOUSING EDUCATION, ORGANIZATION AND ADVOCACY. THIS PAST YEAR WE ALSO ADMINISTERED A STATEWIDE HOUSING VOUCHER PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND WE EXPECT THAT WORK TO CONTINUE INTO THE FUTURE. IN ADDITION, OUR RACIAL EQUITY WORK IS NOW RECOGNIZED AROUND THE STATE AND WE WORK IN A NUMBER OF FORUMS AS STATEWIDE LEADERS IN DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION. OUR COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS IN THE FOUR COUNTIES PROVIDE SERVICES TO RESIDENTS OF CHITTENDEN, ADDISON, FRANKLIN AND GRAND ISLE COUNTIES. COMMUNITY ACTION PROVIDES A BROAD RANGE OF SERVICES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS WITH LOW INCOME. EMERGENCY SERVICES INCLUDE FUEL AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE, HOUSING ASSISTANCE, HUNGER RELIEF, AND TRANSPORTATION. LONGER TERM SOLUTIONS INCLUDE ADVOCACY, ACCESS TO EMPLOYMENT, ACCESS TO MAINSTREAM BENEFITS, INFORMATION AND REFERRAL, AND FREE TAX PREPARATION.
CHAMPLAIN VALLEY HEAD START (CVHS) IS A NATIONAL PRESCHOOL PROGRAM, PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES TO NURTURE THE HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN. CVHS OFFERS PRESCHOOL AND CHILDCARE SERVICES TO YOUNG CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT CHITTENDEN, ADDISON, FRANKLIN AND GRAND ISLE COUNTIES. DURING THE PANDEMIC HEAD START ADJUSTED QUICKLY PROVIDING REMOTE EDUCATION AND OUTFITTING HEAD START FAMILIES WITH COMPUTERS AND WI-FI HOTSPOTS TO ENSURE ACCESS.
CHAMPLAIN VALLEY WEATHERIZATION SERVICE (CVWS) IS THE LOCAL PROVIDER FOR VERMONT'S WEATHERIZATION WORK IN THE CHAMPLAIN VALLEY. THE PROGRAM, WHICH IS OFFERED AT NO COST TO QUALIFIED HOUSEHOLDS, USES STATE, NATIONAL AND UTILITY RESOURCES TO DELIVER COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY SERVICES. SERVICES PROVIDED INCLUDE AN ENERGY AUDIT TO ASSESS THE IMPROVEMENTS THAT WILL PROVIDE THE GREATEST SAVINGS, AIR SEALING AND INSULATION, CLEANING AND TUNING HEATING SYSTEMS, IMPROVING VENTILATION SYSTEMS, AND INSTALLING CARBON MONOXIDE/SMOKE DETECTORS. ADDITIONALLY, WEATHERIZATION STAFF, ALONG WITH COMMUNITY ACTION OFFICES, ASSISTS WITH EMERGENCY HEATING REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT SERVICES. WEATHERIZATION HAS A ONE TOUCH REFERRAL SYSTEM WHERE THEY ARE ABLE TO REFER PEOPLE INTO OTHER IMPORTANT SOCIAL SERVICES. THEY ALSO HAVE A FALLS PROGRAM DOING NEEDED REPAIRS TO THE HOMES OF OLDER VERMONTERS TO PREVENT FALLS.
