THE CONSTANCE SALTONSTALL FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS OPERATES AN ARTISTS' COLONY IN ITHACA, NY. EACH SUMMER, 25 VISUAL ARTISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS AND WRITERS ARE SELECTED BY JURY TO SPEND EITHER 2 OR 4 WEEKS AT THE COLONY WORKING WITHOUT INTERRUPTION IN A PRIVATE STUDIO ENVIRONMENT WHICH ALLOWS MAXIMUM FOCUS ON THEIR WORK.
DURING REST OF THE YEAR SALTONSTALL'S FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO LOCAL AND NEW YORK STATE BASED ARTISTS AND WRITERS AND TO PAST SALTONSTALL FELLOWS AND GRANT RECIPIENTS. THERE IS NO JURING INVOLVED. THERE IS NO APPLICATION PROCESS. IN ADDITION ARE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS WITH AN ACTIVE VISUAL ART OR WRITING PRACTICE ARE INVITED TO APPLY FOR USE OF THE FACILITIES AS AVAILABLE.
THE FOUNDATION ALSO OFFERS OPEN HOUSE EVENTS TO WHICH THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO SEE AND HEAR THE WORK OF THE SUMMER AWARD WINNERS. OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE: LOCAL AND OFF-SITE READINGS BY SALTONSTALL ALUMNI IN THE SPRING AND FALL AND OCCASIONAL ALUMNI EXHIBITIONS.
