THE FOOD BASKET SERVES THOSE IN NEED IN THE BRAZORIA COUNTY ZIP CODES. ON AN AVERAGE ANNUAL BASIS, THE ORGANIZATION SERVES MORE THAN 560 FAMILIES AT A RATE OF APPROXIMATELY 60 FAMILY VISITS PER WEEK. THE PRIMARY REASON FOR THESE SUBSTANTIAL NUMBERS IS FOOD INSECURITY. THE MAKEUP OF THIS GROUP INCLUDES: 1) WORKING FAMILIES UNABLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET FROM PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK, 2) SENIOR CITIZENS LIVING ON A FIXED INCOME, AND 3) PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES THAT PREVENT THEM FROM BEING GAINFULLY EMPLOYED. THE FOOD BASKET PROVIDES ABOUT TWO DAYS OF FOOD ON A WEEKLY BASIS TO THOSE WHO QUALIFY. CLIENTS ARE GIVEN THE CHOICE OF FOOD SELECTION.
