THE SOUTH PLAINS FOOD BANK, INC. IS A HUMANITARIAN RESOURCE RESPONSIBLE FOR SECURING, GROWING, PROCESSING, AND DISTRIBUTING FOOD TO CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND PERSONS IN NEED. SOUTH PLAINS FOOD BANK, INC. ALSO STRIVES TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS TO BREAK OUT OF THE POVERTY CYCLE.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION: SPFB DISTRIBUTED 11.9 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. THROUGH ITS NETWORK OF 146 AGENCIES IN 20 COUNTIES, FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH ON-SITE PROGRAMS, PANTRY PROGRAMS, AND VOUCHER PROGRAMS. THROUGHOUT THE NETWORK, 78,163 BOXES OF FOOD WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES, INCLUDING 19,139 THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE MOBILE PANTRY PROGRAM TO OUR OUTLYING COMMUNITIES. SPFB WAS IN ITS FOURTH YEAR OF PARTICIPATING IN THE COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM AND 35,044 COMMODITY FOOD BOXES WERE DISTRIBUTED TO SENIORS. CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAMS: SPFB HAS BOTH AN AFTER-SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR AND A SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. HOT NUTRITIOUS MEALS AND/OR SNACKS ARE SERVED AT THE SITES AND THE CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED MENTORING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION. DURING THE YEAR, 90753 KIDS CAF MEALS AND 47232 SUMMER MEALS WERE PREPARED. IN ADDITION, 6560 SNACK BAGS AND 2400 HOLIDAY BOXES WERE DISTRIBUTED TO CHILDREN IN LUBBOCK AND SURROUNDING AREAS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS: FOOD STAMPS ARE PROVIDED TO ENSURE THAT THOSE WHO HAVE LONG-TERM FOOD INSECURITY ARE PROVIDED WITH THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES FOR ONGOING HELP. DURING THE YEAR, 1295 APPLICATIONS WERE SUCCESSFULLY FILED. SPFB ALSO CONDUCTS NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND 13000 CONTACTS WERE MADE DURING THE YEAR. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF MEALS PROVIDED THROUGH SNAP AND POUNDS DISTRIBUTED WAS 11.7 MILLION.


FOOD DISTRIBUTION: SPFB DISTRIBUTED 11.92 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. THROUGH ITS NETWORK OF 146 AGENCIES IN 20 COUNTIES, FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH ON-SITE PROGRAMS, PANTRY PROGRAMS, AND VOUCHER PROGRAMS. THROUGHOUT THE NETWORK, 82,703 BOXES OF FOOD WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES, INCLUDING 21,615 THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE MOBILE PANTRY PROGRAM TO OUR OUTLYING COMMUNITIES. SPFB WAS IN ITS FOURTH YEAR OF PARTICIPATING IN THE COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM AND 36,830 COMMODITY FOOD BOXES WERE DISTRIBUTED TO SENIORS. CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAMS: SPFB'S COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY IS EVIDENT IN ITS AFTER-SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR AND SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM. THESE PROGRAMS NOT ONLY PROVIDE HOT NUTRITIOUS MEALS AND/OR SNACKS BUT ALSO OFFER MENTORING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION, SHOWING OUR DEDICATION TO THE HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILDREN. IN THE YEAR, 72,937 KIDS CAFE MEALS AND 22,087 SUMMER MEALS WERE PREPARED, ENSURING THAT NO CHILD GOES HUNGRY. SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS: FOOD STAMPS ARE PROVIDED TO ENSURE THAT THOSE WITH LONG-TERM FOOD INSECURITY HAVE THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES FOR ONGOING HELP. DURING THE YEAR, 1,426 APPLICATIONS WERE SUCCESSFULLY FILED. SPFB ALSO CONDUCTS NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND 6,912 CONTACTS WERE MADE DURING THE YEAR.
