TO SUPPORT THE EDUCATIONAL CURRICULUM OF PS/IS 89, A NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

- STAFF DEVELOPMENT - SUPPORTS CLASSES AND SEMINARS DESIGNED TO MAINTAIN AND ENHANCE TEACHERS' SKILLS. THE PTA PROVIDED THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THREE TEACHERS TO ATTEND A SUMMER WORKSHOP AT TEACHERS COLLEGE, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY: READING AND WRITING PROJECT, SIX TEACHERS TO ATTEND A SUMMER WEBINAR AT TEACHERS COLLEGE, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY: REIMAGING EDUCATION, AND TWO TEACHERS TO ATTEND A WORKSHOP AT BANK STREET GRADUATE SCHOOL: ESSENTIAL ORTON GILLINGHAM. THESE ENHANCED TEACHING SKILLS BENEFITED THE ENTIRE STUDENT BODY OF APPROXIMATELY 350 STUDENTS.


SPECIALTY PROGRAMS INCLUDE 5TH GRADE GRADUATION COMMENCEMENTS, MULTICULTURAL INSTRUCTIONAL EVENTS, CHESS INSTRUCTION, LICE CHECKS, PLAYGROUND ASSISTANCE AND SUPERVISION, TALENT SHOWS AND PARENT MEETINGS.


- STUDENT ENRICHMENT - WHICH FUNDED SCIENCE, VISUAL ARTS AND DANCE CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENTS, INCLUDING SUPPLIES TO FOR SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION AND SCIENCE FAIRS, AND SCHOOL WIDE MUSIC AND DANCE PERFORMANCES. THE PTA FACILITATED SEVERAL FIELD TRIPS FOR EACH CLASS OF STUDENTS. BALLROOM DANCING INSTRUCTION AND HEALTH PUBERTY COURSES WERE PROVIDED TO ALL FIFTH GRADERS. ADDITIONALLY, A SUBSCRIPTION FOR RULER RESOURCES FROM THE CENTER FOR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE WAS PURCHASED FOR THE SCHOOL. THESE LEARNING ENRICHMENTS BENEFITED THE ENTIRE STUDENT BODY OF APPROXIMATELY 350 STUDENTS.


- EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT - THE PTA SUPPORTED UPDATED TEXTBOOKS, LITERARY MATERIALS AND OFFICE SUPPLIES IN THE SCHOOL AND THE CLASSROOMS. SOFTWARE WAS PURCHASED FOR TEACHER PLANNING AND CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT FOR READING, MATH, AND COMPUTER CODING EDUCATION. CLASSROOM TEACHERS RECEIVED A STIPEND TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES AND TEACHING MATERIALS TO FULLY EQUIP THEIR CLASSROOMS. THIS EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT BENEFITED THE ENTIRE STUDENT BODY OF APPROXIMATELY 350 STUDENTS.
