USO SPECIAL DELIVERY IN 2020, WTEPS USO SPECIAL DELIVERY PROGRAM VISITED 23 LOCATIONS (7 COUNTRIES AND OVER 10 U.S. STATES) WITH OVER 750 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. POLICY & ADVOCACYWTEP WAS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AT THE 2ND ANNUAL BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH CAUCUS STAKEHOLDER SUMMIT HELD VIRTUALLY ON JULY 27, 2020. THE VIRTUAL EVENT CONVENED MORE THAN 100 ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO ADDRESS THE BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH CRISIS. THE SUMMIT PRESENTED AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS ADVOCACY EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF THE BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH MOMNIBUS ACT. WTEP FOUNDER, HEIDI MURKOFF, SHARED A VIDEO FOR EVENT PARTICIPANTS AND WTEP PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ANNIE TORO, REPRESENTED THE ORGANIZATION AT THE SUMMIT AND SPOKE ABOUT WTEPS RECOMMENDATIONS TO END PREVENTABLE MATERNAL DEATHS.WTEP JOINED 2020S NATIONAL MATERNAL & INFANT HEALTH SUMMIT AS A PARTNER A KEYSTONE EVENT PLANNED AND EXECUTED BY THRIVE BY FIVE DC IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DC MAYORS OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS TO BUILD ON THE INTEREST CONCERNING THESE CRITICAL ISSUES AND THE DISTRICTS NEW APPROACH TO PROTECT THE HEALTH OF WOMEN, BABIES, AND FAMILIES. THE SUMMIT FOCUSED SIGNIFICANTLY ON THE IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON PREGNANT WOMEN, MOMS, AND BABIES. IN ADVANCE OF THE SUMMIT, HEIDI MURKOFF PREPARED A VIDEO THAT WAS FEATURED DURING THE SUMMIT AND JOINED THRIVE BY FIVE DCS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, DR. FAITH GIBSON HUBBARD, FOR AN INTERVIEW ABOUT WTEPS EFFORTS TO ADVANCE MATERNAL HEALTH, INCLUDING ONGOING ACTIVITIES AND STRATEGIES TO HELP MOMS DURING THE PANDEMIC.DELIVERED WTEP PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION RECOMMENDATIONS TO HELP THE NEW BIDEN ADMINISTRATION MOVE TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CRITICALLY NEEDED MATERNAL HEALTH STRATEGY WITHIN THE FIRST 100 DAYS.HELPED ADVOCATE FOR VARIOUS CONGRESSIONAL PROPOSALS, INCLUDING THE BIPARTISAN HELPING MOMS ACT LEGISLATION AIMED AT REDUCING AND ENDING AMERICAS GROWING MATERNAL MORTALITY CRISIS. PROVISIONS FROM THIS LEGISLATION WERE ENACTED INTO LAW IN OCTOBER 2020. WORKED COLLABORATIVELY WITH VARIOUS MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO HELP INCLUDE THE TRICARE COVERAGE FOR DOULA SUPPORT ACT AND THE MILITARY MOMS MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT ACT UNDER THE 2021 NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT (NDAA) ENACTED INTO LAW. PROGRAMS, CAMPAIGNS & PARTNERSHIPSCREATED AND LAUNCHED #MOMTHEVOTE - A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN TO INSPIRE AND ENERGIZE EVERY MOM IN THE U.S. TO USE THE POWER OF HER VOTE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR HERSELF, HER FAMILY AND HER COMMUNITY. TO INFORM MOMS ABOUT THE CHOICES THEY HAVE AND TO EMPOWER MOMS TO SPEAK UP FOR AND VOTE FOR CANDIDATES WHO VOTE FOR THEM ON ISSUES AND POLICIES THAT IMPACT THEM: FROM MATERNAL HEALTHCARE TO MENTAL HEALTHCARE, PAID FAMILY LEAVE TO AFFORDABLE CHILDCARE, EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, TO THE ENVIRONMENT.THE BABY BASICS TRAINING PROGRAM BEGAN HOLDING VIRTUAL TRAININGS. #BUMPDAY 2020 WAS OUR 6TH ANNUAL SOCIAL MEDIA ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN THAT CELEBRATES BEAUTIFUL BUMPS AND HEALTHY PREGNANCIES AROUND THE WORLD, WHILE RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT THE OVERWHELMING NEED FOR IMPROVED MATERNAL HEALTH CARE BOTH IN THE U.S. AND GLOBALLY.
