SONGCATCHERS PROMOTES COMMUNITY BUILDING, MUTUAL RESPECT, AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS THROUGH MUSIC.

AFTER-SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM (ASMP)THE ASMP SERVES CHILDREN 7-13 YEARS OF AGE. LESSONS ON 12 INSTRUMENTS WERE HELD VIRTUALLY FOR 70 STUDENTS TUESDAYS-SATURDAYS FROM OCTOBER 2020 THROUGH JUNE 2021. SIXTY VOLUNTEER TEACHERS AND 7 MENTORS PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAM AND ATTENDED TRAINING CLASSES IN SEPTEMBER 2020. RECITALS WERE HELD IN JUNE 2021.IN ADDITION TO MUSIC LESSONS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, A 12-WEEK VIRTUAL COMPOSERS OF THE FUTURE PROGRAM TAUGHT 10 OF OUR ADVANCED STUDENTS HOW TO COMPOSE MUSIC. THEIR COMPOSITIONS WERE PERFORMED BY THE SYMPHONY OF WESTCHESTER DURING A VIRTUAL CONCERT ON MARCH 21, 2021. EIGHTY-FIVE PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE U.S. TUNED INTO THE CONCERT VIA ZOOM. ADDITIONALLY, AN IN-PERSON INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM WAS OFFERED MONDAY TO FRIDAY FOR THREE WEEKS IN JULY 2021 AND SERVED 20 STUDENTS AND 10 VOLUNTEERS.


CHORAL ARTSTHE CHORAL ARTS PROGRAM INCLUDES A YOUTH CHOIR, INTERGENERATIONAL CHOIR AND ENSEMBLE, AND CHOIR CAMP. THE CHOIRS PERFORM FOR A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY, CIVIC AND INTERFAITH EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, ALL IN-PERSON PERFORMANCES WERE CANCELED FOR FY21.CHOIR CAMP IS A ONE-WEEK SLEEP AWAY CAMP DURING THE SUMMER WHERE CHILDREN IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN CHORUS, INSTRUMENTAL INSTRUCTION, ART AND DRAMA, AS WELL AS SPORTS AND CHARACTER-BUILDING GAMES AND ACTIVITIES. THE WEEK CULMINATES WITH A CONCERT AND DRAMATIC MUSICAL PRESENTATION FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, CHOIR CAMP WAS CANCELED, AND A CHOIR CAMP DAY TOOK ITS PLACE IN AUGUST 2021.


EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC PROGRAM (EC)EC SERVES CHILDREN 1.5 TO 7 YEARS OF AGE. MUSIKGARTEN FOR TODDLERS INTRODUCES OUR LITTLEST SONGCATCHERS TO MOVEMENT AND MUSIC WITH THEIR PARENTS OR CAREGIVERS. THE TODDLER CLASSES WERE CANCELED FOR FY21. AGES 4-7 TAKE EARLY VIOLIN LESSONS AND BEGINNING WITH AGE 6 EARLY PIANO CLASSES ARE OFFERED. FIFTEEN CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN THESE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS IN FY21.
