- IN 2021, CESR CONTINUED ITS WORK WITH CIVIL SOCIETY AROUND THE GLOBE TO MONITOR THE HUMAN RIGHTS IMPACTS OF ECONOMIC AND OTHER POLICY RESPONSES TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BY GOVERNMENTS AND INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. WE PUBLISHED CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH UNDERTAKEN COLLABORATIVELY WITH PARTNERS, FOR EXAMPLE ON THE IMPACTS OF ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL POLICIES IN EGYPT AND IN SOUTH AFRICA. WE ALSO LAUNCHED THE GROUNDBREAKING PRINCIPLES FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN FISCAL POLICY, WITH A WEEK OF ACTIVITIES, DEBATES AND DIALOGUES WHICH (VIRTUALLY) GATHERED OVER 100 PARTICIPANTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.- CESR CONTINUED ITS ADVOCACY WORK TO CHALLENGE UNJUST TAX AND BUDGET POLICIES IN NUMEROUS COUNTRIES ACROSS THE GLOBE INCLUDING SERBIA, EGYPT, COLOMBIA AND ARGENTINA, ADVOCATING INTERNATIONALLY FOR FAIRER FISCAL POLICIES TO REALIZE HUMAN RIGHTS AND REDUCE INEQUALITIES. WE UNDERTOOK ADVOCACY IN INTERNATIONAL FORA SUCH AS THE UN AND THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND. FOR EXAMPLE, WE SUBMITTED A PETITION TO THE UN COMMITTEE ON THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION, AND CO-PUBLISHED THE SPOTLIGHT REPORT ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WHICH INFLUENCED DEBATES AT THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.- CESR PROVIDED TOOLS, TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO SCORES OF HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS AND DEFENDERS ACROSS THE GLOBE ON HOW TO MONITOR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RIGHTS AND ENSURE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEM. WE DID THIS THROUGH ONLINE AND IN-PERSON TRAININGS AND WORKSHOPS, WHICH REACHED HUNDREDS OF PARTICIPANTS GLOBALLY, FROM BOGOTA TO TUNIS.
