NORTH BROOKLYN DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION WAS FORMED TO ASSIST, PROMOTE, ENCOURAGE AND STIMULATE THE CONSTRUCTION AND/OR REHABILITATION OF RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS IN BLIGHTED OR UNDERDEVELOPED AREAS OF BROOKLYN, NY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS-NBDC HAS CONTIUED TO OPERATE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN 3 LOCAL SCHOOLS FOR 310 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AGES 6 TO 11. THE PROGRAM OPERATES 3 HOURS A DAY, 5 DAYS A WEEK.IT PROVIDES A SAFE, HEALTHY AND INTELLECTUALLY ENRICHING ENRICHING ENVIRONMENT OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL TIME. IT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN TO PARTICIPATE IN NUMEROUS ART AND SCIENCE PROJECTS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES. DURING THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR, THE PROGRAM PROVIDED IN PERSON SERVICES WHEN SCHOOLS WERE OPEN, AND WHEN SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED DUE TO THE COVID-19 REGULATION, THE PROGRAM CONTINUED TO OPERATE REMOTELY.
NEIGHBORHOOD AND HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM - DURING THE LAST 12 MONTHS, WE HAD CLOSE TO 1,500 VISITS TO OUR OFFICE BECAUSE OF HOUSING RELATED MATTERS. PROGRAM PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING SERVICES INFORMATION AND ADVICE ON TENANT RIGHTS AND THEIR ENFORCEMENT THROUGH WORKSHOPS, TENANT ASSOCIATION MEETINGS, AND DURING INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATIONS FINDING LEGAL HELP AND ASSISTING TENANTS IN HOUSING COURT AS WELL AS WRITING LETTERS TO LANDLORDS AND HOUSING AGENCIES ON BEHALF OF TENANTS. OUR STAFF HAS ALSO PROVIDED INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING AND APPLYING FOR AFFORDABLE APARTMENTS
COMMUNITY SERVICES- OUR ORGANIZATION PROVIDED SUPPORT AND ASSITANCE TO LOCAL COMMUNITY RESIDENTS REGARDING SAFETY, HEALTH, AND LOCAL MATTERS. THROUGHOUT THE COVID-9 PANDEMIC, NBDC DISTRIBUTED FOOD PACKAGES AND CLEANING SUPPLIES TO APPROX. 300 SENIORS. FOOD DONATIONS WERE RECEIVED ON REGULAR BASIS FROM LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES, AS WELL AS FROM THE CITY OF NEW YORK.
