THE MISSION OF THE SOUTH COUNTY HISTORY CENTER IS TO LEAD THE DISCOVERY AND PRESERVATION OF SOUTH COUNTY'S HISTORY.

THE CENTER MAINTAINS A SIGNIFICANT COLLECTION OF HISTORIC ARCHIVAL MATERIALS AND ARTIFACTS, AS WELL AS A RESEARCH LIBRARY. THESE COLLECTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR SCHOLARLY RESEARCH, PRESENTED TO THE PUBLIC THROUGH EXHIBITIONS AND PROGRAMMING, LOANED TO OTHER CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS, AND PRESERVED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.


THE CENTER IS ENGAGED IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION, NAMELY AT THE OLD WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL (1858/1861) IN KINGSTON, RHODE ISLAND; THE POTTER FAMILY BURIAL GROUND IN KINGSTON, RHODE ISLAND; AND THE QUAKER BURIAL GROUND IN WAKEFIELD, RHODE ISLAND. EACH OF THESE PROPERTIES IS PRESERVED BY THE CENTER AND USED TO FULFILL THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION.


THE CENTER PRESENTS ENGAGING AND MEANINGFUL PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES IN ORDER TO INSPIRE LEARNING AND UNDERSTANDING ABOUT OUR REGION'S HISTORY.
