Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

IN 2021, RLF CONTINUED EXPLORING LAND CONSERVATION INITIATIVES IN THE TOWN OF LINCOLN, INCLUDING MONITORING LAND OF CONSERVATION INTEREST, DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING RELATIONSHIPS WITH LAND OWNERS, DEVELOPING LAND PLANNING SOLUTIONS FOR OPEN SPACE PROTECTION AND THE LOCATION OF PUBLIC TRAILS, AND SUPPORTING INITIATIVES TO EDUCATE THE TOWN OF LINCOLN ABOUT LAND CONSERVATION. SPECIFIC RLF ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2021 INCLUDE:TWIN POND LANE PROJECT: RLF ACQUIRED TWO PARCELS WITH A COMBINED 7.8 ACRES ON TWIN POND LANE. THE CONSERVATION OF THE TWO PARCELS PROTECTED VITAL FORESTED LAND, POND FRONTAGE, AND WETLAND HABITAT. THE PROJECT ALSO STRENGTHENED THE EXISTING WILDLIFE CORRIDOR AND PROTECTED A SCENIC BUFFER BETWEEN TWIN POND LANE, TOWER ROAD, AND EXISTING CONSERVATION TRAILS. PRESERVATION OF THESE PARCELS ENHANCES WATERSHED PROTECTION FOR THE CAMBRIDGE RESERVOIR. AN AT-RISK TRAIL IS NOW PERMANENTLY PROTECTED. AS THIS WAS A COLLABORATIVE CONSERVATION PROJECT, THE CITY OF CAMBRIDGE WILL EVENTUALLY HOLD THE LAND IN FEE. THE TOWN OF LINCOLN WILL HOLD A CONSERVATION RESTRICTION OVER THE ENTIRETY OF THE TWO PARCELS. LINCOLN LAND CONSERVATION TRUST WILL HOLD THE TRAIL EASEMENT WHICH CONNECTS THE FERNALD WOODS AND UMBRELLO CONSERVATION AREAS WEST OF TOWER ROAD WITH THE STONY BROOK SOUTH AND BEAVER POND CONSERVATION AREAS EAST OF TOWER ROAD.
