PROVIDED LIBRARY SERVICES TO THE TOWNS' RESIDENTS WITH A CIRCULATION OF 6,062; PUBLIC COMPUTER USE AT AN AVERAGE OF 2 HOURS PER WEEK; AND ATTENDANCE OF 1,714 AT A VARIETY OF SPECIAL PROGRAMS.
OUR GRANT-FUNDED PROGRAMMING CONSISTS OF: - FINANCIALLY SUPPORTING A TRADITIONAL AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM (KIDS CLUB) HELD AT THE BECKET WASHINGTON SCHOOL 5 DAYS/WEEK FROM 3-5:30PM, KEEPING THE COSTS DOWN TO 5/DAY/CHILD FOR FAMILIES. THIS PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES FREE TUTORING FOR THE STUDENTS GRADES 2-5. - OVERSEEING A FREE TUTORING PROGRAM 3 DAYS/WEEK FOR GRADES 6-12, USING BOTH PAID TEEN INTERNS, LIBRARY STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS. -"WE RUN A TRADITIONAL BOOK CLUB, BANNED BOOKS CLUB, AND A COOKBOOK CLUB MONTHLY, AS WELL AS STORYTIME & CRAFTS FOR PRESCHOOLERS, STORYTIME & CREATIVE MOVEMENT, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOR THE LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSES. - TEEN INTERN MENTOR PROGRAM - YEAR ROUND JOBS AND TRAINING FOR LOCAL TEENS, TYPICALLY THEIR VERY FIRST JOB. WE GUIDE THEM THROUGH JOB APPLICATIONS, INTERVIEWS, WORKING PAPERS, DIRECT DEPOSIT FORMS, AS WELL AS MENTORING THEM FOR WORK ETHIC, SKILLS BUILDING, AND TEAM WORK. - WE SCHEDULE 24-36 ADDITIONAL STAND-ALONE PROGRAMS: CRAFT AND GARDENING CLASSES, PUBLIC SPEAKERS ON A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS, ENVIRONMENTAL AND POLLINATOR PRESENTATIONS & HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS, AND AN EVER-CHANGING LINE-UP OF PERFORMERS (STORYTELLERS, PUPPETEERS, MUSICIANS, ETC.)
DUE TO COVID 19 AND THE SHUTTING DOWN OF SUMMER CAMPS DURING THE PANDEMIC, THIS YEAR OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BECKET CHIMNEY CORNERS YMCA WAS PUT ON HOLD AND WE DID NOT APPLY FOR A GRANT FOR SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING.
