NETWORKING AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: IN SUPPORT OF ITS GOAL OF ESTABLISHING CONNECTIONS WITH LIKE-MINDED SCHOLARS, THE CENTER STAFF HOSTED INFORMAL VIRTUAL MEETINGS WITH EMERGING AND ESTABLISHED ACADEMICS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IN ADDITION, WE ORGANIZED VIRTUAL PLANNING MEETINGS AND CONFERENCE CALLS WITH THE SCHOLARS WE COLLABORATED WITH IN OUR PROGRAMS. WE ALSO ATTENDED VIRTUAL EVENTS RELATED TO OUR MISSION OF FOSTERING CULTURES OF PEACE.
SEMINARS AND PUBLIC EVENTS: IN 2021, DUE TO THE ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE CENTER SHIFTED OUR DIALOGUE NIGHTS EVENT SERIES ONLINE AND LAUNCHED VIRTUAL DIALOGUE NIGHTS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND YOUNG PROFESSIONALS. WE HELD A TOTAL OF FOUR VIRTUAL DIALOGUE NIGHTS ON TOPICS SUCH AS SELF-LOVE, UNPACKING THE PANDEMIC, AND VULNERABILITY, WITH YOUTH JOINING FROM DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD. THE CENTER ALSO LAUNCHED TWO NEW PROGRAMS: 1) INDIGO TALKS, A VIRTUAL LECTURE SERIES FEATURING RENOWNED SCHOLARS ENGAGING WITH CENTER FOUNDER DAISAKU IKEDA'S WRITINGS AND 2) GLOBAL CITIZENS SEMINAR, A NEW SEMINAR SERIES BRINGING GRADUATE AND DOCTORAL STUDENTS TOGETHER TO EXAMINE KEY THEMES FROM MR. IKEDA'S PEACE PROPOSALS, SPEECHES, AND ESSAYS. LASTLY, IN DECEMBER, WE HOSTED OUR ANNUAL IKEDA FORUM VIRTUALLY, WHICH FEATURED A PRESENTATION ON GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP BY DR. AWAD IBRAHIM FOLLOWED BY AN INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUE BETWEEN DR. IBRAHIM AND FOUR EMERGING SCHOLARS.
PUBLICATIONS AND WEBSITE: IN 2021, THE CENTER, IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE PUBLISHER TEACHERS COLLEGE PRESS, COMPLETED EDITING AND PUBLISHED A MULTI-AUTHOR BOOK TITLED, HOPE AND JOY IN EDUCATION: ENGAGING DAISAKU IKEDA ACROSS CURRICULUM AND CONTEXT. TO CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF THE BOOK, WE PROMOTED AND ORGANIZED TWO VIRTUAL EVENTS, WHICH FEATURED BRIEF PRESENTATIONS AND Q&A WITH THE CO-EDITORS OF THE BOOK. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO INCREASE OUR ONLINE PRESENCE THROUGH OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES: FACEBOOK, TWITTER, AND INSTAGRAM. SPECIFICALLY, WE PROMOTED OUR VIRTUAL EVENTS, SHARED LINKS TO OUR POST EVENT WRITE UPS AND VIDEOS, AND INTRODUCED RELEVANT EXCERPTS FROM OUR PUBLICATIONS. IN THE SUMMER, WE LAUNCHED A NEW PODCAST CALLED THE DIALOGUE STUDIO, WHICH EXPLORES THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF DIALOGUE WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE.
