MILFOIL CONTROL PROGRAM - SURVEYS, TREATMENT, HAND-PULLING OF INVASIVE MILFOIL. THE PROGRAM WAS APPROVED AND OVERSEEN BY THE VT DEPT. OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND INVOLVED A MULTI-FACETED APPROACH WHICH SUCCEEDED IN REMOVING MANY TONS OF PLANTS.
THE ASSOCIATION ALSO CONDUCTED A VOLUNTEER-LED EFFORT TO EDUCATE RESIDENTS ABOUT THE IMPACT OF AND CONTROL OF NON-NATIVE ACQUATIC NUISANCE PLANTS. PAID STAFF WERE USED AS "BOAT GREETERS" TO CONTROL THE SPREAD OF INVASIVES. A TOTAL OF MORE THAN 2700 WATERCRAFT WERE INSPECTED BETWEEN MAY 15 AND OCTOBER 15.
OTHER OVERHEAD AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES. GENERAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND DONATIONS SUPPORTED THE WATER QUALITY ACTION PROGRAM TO STUDY SOURCES OF PHOSPOROUS IN LAKE FAIRLEE. ASSISTED THE DEPT OF LAKES AND PONDS IMPLEMENTING THE "LAKE-WISE" PROGRAM, ENCOURAGING VEGETATIVE BUFFERS ON THE LAKESHORE. SUPPORTED THE REVITALIZTION OF TREASURE ISLAND RECREATION AREA ($5,000).
