FOUNDED IN 1955, THE MISSION OF THE STRAFFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS TO PRESERVE THE SITES, RECORDS, OBJECTS AND RELATED MATERIALS PERTAINING TO THE HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF STRAFFORD FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES AND TO APPLY THE LESSONS OF HISTORY FOR THE SOLUTION AND BETTERMENT OF THE CURRENT AFFAIRS OF SAID TOWN.

THE STRAFFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY CONTINUES TO FUND RAISE AND RENOVATE THE HISTORIC 120 YEAR OLD MASONIC TEMPLE THAT WAS PURCHASED IN 2021. BEFORE THE EXIBITS, ARTIFACTS AND DISPLAYS OF EARLY LIFE IN STRAFFORD CAN BE MOVED INTO THE BUILDING, SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS MUST BE MADE. GRANTS AND DONATIONS WERE SOLICITED TO HELP PAY FOR A HEAT PUMP SYSTEM WHICH WAS INSTALLED IN DECEMBER OF 2022.
THE STRAFFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY PUBLISHES A PERIODIC NEWSLETTER THAT IS MAILED TO ALL MEMBERS.
DURING 2022, THE SOCIETY CONTINUED UPDATING AND IMPROVING THE STRAFFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY WEBSITE AT WWW.STRAFFORDHISTORY.ORG. THE WEBSITE NOW CONTAINS A BLOG, PICTURE GALLERY AND HISTORIC INFORMATION. A SYSTEM HAS BEEN SET UP TO ACCEPT DONATIONS AND FOR PEOPLE TO REQUEST INFORMATION. THE SITE IS MONITORED BY VOLUNTEERS AND INQUIRIES ARE FORWARDED TO THE APPROPRIATE PERSON. THERE ARE FOUR VOLUNTEERS WORKING ON THE WEBSITE AND ITS CONTENT.
A WALKING TOUR OF SOUTH STRAFFORD VILLAGE WAS GIVEN BY THE HISTORIAN FOR THE STRAFFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY. APPROXIMATELY 35 PEOPLE ATTENDED. ATTENDEES WERE GIVEN A HISTORIC REPRESETATION OF THE BUILDINGS LOCATED IN THE VILLAGE, BOTH PRESENT AND IN THE PAST, INCLUDING ANECDOTES ABOUT WHO LIVED AND WORKED IN THE VILLAGE. REFRESHMENTS AND FURTHER CONVERSATION FOLLOWED AT BARRETT HALL. DONATIONS FOR THE PROGRAM WERE 35.
