VERMONT WOODLANDS IS AN EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION WITH NEARLY 800 MEMBERS WHO ARE LANDOWNERS, FORESTERS, NATURAL RESOURCE PROFESSIONALS, FORESTRY AND WOOD PRODUCTS BUSINESSES, AND FRIENDS. WE HAVE AN ACTIVE AND DIVERSE BOARD OF DIRECTORS WHO MEET ON A MONTHLY BASIS TO CONDUCT THE BUSINESS OF THE ORGANIZATION. TEN COMMITTEES COMPOSED UP OF BOARD MEMBERS, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AND INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS MEET ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS. THE COMMITTEES ARE: EXECUTIVE, FINANCE, TREE FARM, POLICY/ADVOCACY, FORESTRY, DIVERSITY, COMMUNICATIONS/MEMBERSHIP, PROGRAMATIC/EDUCATION AND GOVERNANCE. SOME COMMITTEES ARE VERY ACTIVE ALL YEAR; OTHERS DEAL WITH ANNUAL TASKS.IN 2007, VWA LAUNCHED ITS WALK IN THE WOODS PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VT DEPT. VWA MEMBERSHIP SERVICES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO :- PROVIDING AND DISTRIBUTING COPIES OF NORTHERN WOODLANDS MAGAZINES AND COPIES OF VWA'S QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER/MAGAZINE-TRAINING OF PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING FORESTERS AND ADVERTISING IN THE FORESTRY RELATED MAGAZINES-EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR BOTH MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC DURING 2020 AS WEBINARS OWING TO THE COVID PANDEMIC REGARDING TREE IDENTIFICATION , ROAD AND TRAIL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, BMP'S OR BEST MANAGEMJENT PRACTICES IN FORESTRY, APPLE TREE PRUNING AND RELEASE, WILDLIFE TRACKING AND IDENTIFICATION, WATER BAR CONSTRUCTION AND LOCATION, AND MANY OTHER WILDLIFE, RECREATION, WATER AND OTHER SILVICULTURE AND FORESTRY RELATED PROGRAMS.
THE TREE FARM PROGRAM SUPERVISES THE NATIONAL TREE FARM PROGRAM IN VERMONT INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO TREE INSPECTIONS,INSPECTING REGISTERED TREE FARMS FOR CERTIFICATION, CONDUCTING TREE FARM TOURS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF VERMONT, PLUS OTHER SILVICULTURE, FORESTRY, AND WILDLIFE PROGRAMS FOR VWA MEMBERS AND VWA CONSULTING FORESTERS AND THE PUBLIC.
AS A PILOT STATE MEMBER FOR THE AMERICAN TREE FARM SYSTEM WWW PROJECT, VWA SUPPORTS AND CONDUCTS SUCCESSIONAL PLANNING WORKSHOPS THROUGHOUT THE STATE TO ASSIST FOREST LANDOWNERS IN TRANSFERING THEIR PROPERTIES AND ESTATES TO FUTURE GENERATIONS.
