GREEN UP DAY - PROVIDES SUPPLIES, PROMOTION AND COORDINATES VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS ANNUAL STATEWIDE CLEAN UP DAY. LAUNCHED IN 1970 BY GOVERNOR DEANE C. DAVIS, GREEN UP VERMONT IS THE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PROUDLY CARRYING ON THE TRADITION OF GREEN UP DAY, SINCE 1979. ALWAYS THE FIRST SATURDAY IN MAY, OVER 60,000 GREEN UP BAGS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO 247 PARTICIPATING TOWNS FOR THIS YEAR'S EVENT. TEN TO OVER 400 VOLUNTEERS PER TOWN COLLECTED ROADSIDE TRASH. GREEN UP DAY FOCUSES ON CLEANING UP TOWN ROADS, PUBLIC SPACES, AND WATERWAYS.
STUDENT POSTER AND WRITING CONTESTS - PROMOTES ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS TO STUDENTS GRADES K-12. OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS. ONE OVERALL WINNER AND THREE CATEGORY WINNERS WERE AWARDED IN THE POSTER CONTEST. THE OVERALL WINNING POSTER DESIGN BECAME THE OFFICIAL GREEN UP DAY 2020 POSTER FOR PROMOTING THE EVENT. ONE STUDENT WAS SELETED AS THE 2020 WRITING CONTEST WINNER.
