WORK TO ENHANCE THE ECOLOGY OF BAYOU TECHE AND TO BUILD AND MANAGE THE BAYOU TECHE PADDLE TRAIL, A DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR RECOGNIZED NATIONAL WATER TRAIL, FOR TRAIL BASED TOURISM IN THE FIFTEEN COMMUNITIES ALONG BAYOU TECHE.

PROMOTED THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF BAYOU TECHE: HOSTED THE SHAKE YOUR TRAIL FEATHER PADDLE PARADE WITH OVER 200 ATTENDEES. LOCAL CAJUN MUSICIANS ENTERTAINED PADDLERS IN OUR ANNUAL BAYOU TECHE PADDLE PARADE. ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP BANQUET IN ST. MARTINVILLE FOR 80 ATTENDEES. REPRESENTED THE TECHE PROJECT AND OUR MISSION AT SEVERAL EVENTS AND CLUB MEETINGS. ALSO GAVE PRESENTATIONS ABOUT OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FUTURE GOALS TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS.
PROVIDED ECOLOGICAL SERVICES:CONDUCED TRASH PICKUP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SAVE THE GULF INITIATIVE (1/2 TON OF TRASH REMOVED FORM THE BAYOU AND BANKLINE). CONDUCTED A BANKLINE DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ACADIANA NATIVE PLANT PROJECT,THE IRIS CONSERVATION INITIATIVE, AND THE CITY OF NEW IBERIA AT THE CITY PARK IN NEW IBERIA. CONTINUED TO PROMOTE AND DISTRIBUTE OUR BANKLINE MANAGEMENT GUIDE TO TRAIN LANDOWNERS ON HOW TO REDUCE DAMAGING RUNOFF AND EROSION BY RESTORING NATIVE VEGETATION TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY. THE GUIDEBOOK WAS ANNOUNCED TO ALL LANDOWNERS ON TH BAYOU AND CAN BE DOWNLOADED FOR FREE ON OUR WEBSITE. WE ALSO PROVIDED BLOG ON OUR WEBSITE ASSISTING LANDOWNERS ON HOW TO MANAGE THEIR WOOD DUCK BOXES. CONTINUED WOOD DUCK PRODUCTION PROGRAM WITH OVER 56 LANDOWNERS ALONG THE BAYOU MONITORING AND MANAGING NEST BOXES FORM PORT BARRE TO BERWICK (PRODUCING OVER 370 FLEDGLINGS IN 2021). THE TECHE PROJECT CONTINUES TO WORK TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY AND HAS CONNIVED A TASK GROUP TO ADDRESS MEASURES TO REDUCE FECAL CHLOROFORM LEVELS. IN THE FUTURE, WE HOPE TO WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO INSTITUTE A SEWAGE DISCHARGE MONITORING PROGRAM.
BUILD, MANAGE AND PROMOTE THE BAYOU TECHE PADDLE TRAIL: CONTINUED TO WORK ON AN LOUISIANA OFFICE OF TOURISM RECREATIONAL TRAILS GRANT (H.013508)TO BUILD PADDLE TRAIL ACCESS DOCKS IN EACH OF THE 15 COMMUNITIES ALONG THE BAYOU TECHE.IN 2021 THE CENTERVILLE DOCK WAS INSTALLED, BRINGING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF COMPLETE TRAILHEADS TO 12. IN 2021 WE ALSO COMPLETED THE KIOSK PROJECT. WE NOW HAVE INFORMATIONAL KIOSKS IN ALL OF THE COMMUNITIES ALONG THE BAYOU. WE APPLIED FOR GRANT FUNDING FOR THE LAST 2 TRAILHEAD DOCKS IN LEONVILLE AND POCHE BRIDGE IN JUL;Y 2021.
