AS THE PUBLIC LIBRARY SERVING RESIDENTS OF NORTH BERWICK, ME OUR MISSION IS TO OFFER THE RESOURCES AND ENCOURAGEMENT NECESSARY TO PROMOTE THE JOY OF READING, INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE WORLD, BROADEN CULTURAL HORIZONS, AND FOSTER LIFE-LONG LEARNING

THE D.A. HURD LIBRARY PROVIDES INFORMATION SERVICES TO THE RESIDENTS OF NORTH BERWICK, AND TO ALL OF THE STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND FACULTY IN MSAD #60. THE LIBRARY IS GOVERNED BY TWELVE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF A BOARD OF TRUSTEES. THE LIBRARY'S PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE SUPPORTED WITH FUNDS PROVIDED, IN LARGE PART, BY THE TOWN OF NORTH BERWICK. SUPPLEMENTAL MONIES FROM GRANTS, MEMORIAL DONATIONS, GIFTS, AND FEES PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS.THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAILY OPERATION OF THE LIBRARY. FIVE FULL-TIME AND/OR PART-TIME EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING THE LIBRARY'S DIRECTOR, AND A CORE GROUP OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WORK TO PROVIDE LIBRARY VISITORS WITH FREE ACCESS TO A WIDE RANGE OF INFORMATION IN MULTIPLE FORMATS. THE LIBRARY'S COLLECTION OF NEARLY 35,000 ITEMS INCLUDES A WIDE VARIETY BOOKS IN PRINT AND ON COMPACT DISC FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, INTERESTS, AND READING ABILITIES; POPULAR FILMS, DOCUMENTARIES, AND TELEVISION SHOWS ON DVD; OUTDOOR GAMES AND STEM KITS; AND LOCAL HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES. THE D.A. HURD LIBRARY IS OPEN MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND FRIDAY 9:30-5:00; TUESDAY AND THURSDAY 1:00-7:00; AND SATURDAY 9:30-1:00. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE LIBRARY: WAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FROM MARCH 17-MAY 31,2020; OPEN FOR CURBSIDE SERVICE ONLY FROM JUNE 1, 2020 - AUGUST 2, 2020; PATRONS WELCOMED TO BROWSE LIBRARY BY APPOINTMENT AND CURBSIDE WAS STILL AVAILABLE FROM AUGUST 3, 2020 - DECEMBER 31, 2020; OPEN FOR CURBSIDE SERVICE ONLY FROM JANUARY 1, 2021- MARCH 14, 2021; PATRONS WELCOMED TO BROWSE LIBRARY BY APPOINTMENT AND CURBSIDE WAS STILL AVAILABLE FROM MARCH 15, 2021 - MAY 23, 2021: FULLY OPEN AND CURBSIDE STILL AVAILABLE MAY 24, 2021 - PRESENT.
