TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD, IN PARTICULAR SOUTHEAST ASIA, THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT, AND PARTS OF AFRICA. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY PROMOTING EDUCATION, ESPECIALLY THAT OF WOMEN, NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT, AND REMOVING CHILDREN FROM PROSTITUTION AND THE WORKPLACE.

Because of their endowments, they are focused primarily on grantmaking and generally do not actively raise funds or seek public financial support. THE FOUNDATION ADVANCES SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE UNITED STATES BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL AWARDS TO ACADEMICALLY OUTSTANDING U.S. CITIZENS STUDYING TO COMPLETE DOCTORAL DEGREES IN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND MEDICAL RESEARCH.
