SAFE AT HOME (SERVED 902 CATS AND KITTENS IN 2022, A 15% INCREASE OVER 2021) EMPOWERS PEOPLE TO SAVE THE LIVES OF CATS AND KITTENS BY FOSTERING, THUS REDUCING THEIR INTAKE AT THE SHELTER. THROUGH OUR SAFE AT HOME PROGRAM, WE HELP COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT SEEK SUPPORT FOR BOTH UNWEANED KITTENS (MANY OF WHOM ARE PUT DOWN THE DAY THEY ENTER THE SHELTER) AND SICK AND INJURED COMMUNITY CATS. SAFE AT HOME EMPOWERS AND EDUCATES THESE COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO SERVE AS FOSTER CAREGIVERS AND PLAY AN INTEGRAL PART IN SAVING ANIMAL LIVES. AT THE SOUTH LOS ANGELES SHELTER, STRAY CAT ALLIANCE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COUNSELORS INTERCEPT PEOPLE-BEFORE CATS AND KITTENS ARE IMPOUNDED-AND OFFER MENTORSHIP AND SUPPORT FOR THEM TO BECOME FOSTER CAREGIVERS. WE PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT ON ALL ASPECTS OF CARE, FROM(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) BOTTLE FEEDING TO ADOPTION. WE ALSO PROVIDE ALL MEDICAL CARE AND, WHEN NEEDED, FOOD AND SUPPLIES. THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW PROGRAMS OF ITS KIND IN THE UNITED STATES.
CARE FOR COMMUNITY CATS (SERVED 4,522 PEOPLE SEEKING SUPPORT FOR 20,241 CATS, A 10% AND 19% INCREASE OVER 2021 RESPECTIVELY) EMPOWERS COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO DIRECTLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF CATS IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD. THIS PUBLIC SERVICE PROVIDES RESOURCES FOR ALL ASPECTS OF CAT CARE INCLUDING: EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, TRAP/NEUTER/RETURN TRAINING, ADOPTIONS, RESCUE, AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. OUR HOTLINE SERVES PEOPLE THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE US AND AROUND THE WORLD. WE ALSO PROVIDED 12,027 MEALS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS CARING FOR CATS. THIS PROGRAM IS AT THE ROOT OF EMPOWERING COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD CATS.IN 2022, STRAY CAT ALLIANCE MADE FURTHER PROGRESS IN BUILDING THE CAPACITY OF OUR IN-HOUSE VETERINARY HOSPITAL. WE PROVIDE MEDICAL TREATMENT TO ALL CATS AND KITTENS IN OUR PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THOSE IN FOSTER AND COMMUNITY CATS THAT HAVE MEDICAL NEEDS. IN ADDITION TO OFFERING BASIC WELLNESS AND MEDICAL CARE-INCLUDING SPAY/NEUTER, VACCINATIONS, TREATMENT OF PARASITIC INFECTIONS, COMMON ILLNESSES, AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES-WE ALSO RUN BLOOD WORK, TAKE X-RAYS AND SONOGRAMS, PROVIDE DENTAL CARE, PERFORM ORTHOPEDIC SURGERIES, AND MORE. IN 2022, WE ADDED A FULL-TIME VETERINARIAN AND HIGHLY SKILLED REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN TO OUR SALARIED STAFF. THESE INVESTMENTS REDUCE OUR EXPENSES AND THE COST OF CARE PER CAT.IN 2022, STRAY CAT ALLIANCE RETURNED TO HOLDING AN IN-PERSON GALA (AS OPPOSED TO THE VIRTUAL GALA HELD IN 2021). THESE INCREASED OUR FUNDRAISING EXPENSES IN 2022 VERSUS 2021. OUR GALA VENUE WAS DONATED FOR OUR USE AT A VALUE OF $100,000.
RETURN TO HOME FOR COMMUNITY CATS (FORMERLY RETURN TO FIELD) (SERVED 825 CATS IN 2022) REDUCES THE DEATH RATE OF HEALTHY COMMUNITY CATS TRAPPED AND BROUGHT INTO SHELTERS. STRAY CAT ALLIANCE'S RTH PROGRAM WAS THE FIRST IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND AMONG THE FIRST IN THE UNITED STATES. STRAY CAT ALLIANCE STERILIZES HEALTHY COMMUNITY CATS THAT HAVE BEEN IMPOUNDED AT SHELTERS (IN FULL COLLABORATION WITH THE SHELTER) AND RETURNS THEM TO THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS. IN ADDITION, STRAY CAT ALLIANCE PERFORMS TARGETED TRAP/NEUTER/RETURN TO FURTHER REDUCE SHELTER INTAKE AND INCREASE LIVE OUTCOMES. PUBLIC EDUCATION AND OUTREACH UNDERSCORE THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF SPAY/NEUTER OF COMMUNITY AND LOOSELY OR FULLY OWNED CATS. STRAY CAT ALLIANCE ALSO CONDUCTS ADVOCACY, LOANS TRAPS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOR TRAP/NEUTER/RETURN, (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) AND DOES COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
ADOPTIONS (ADOPTED 1,522 CATS IN 2022) PROVIDES FOSTER AND FOREVER HOMES FOR CATS AND KITTENS IMPOUNDED AT THE SHELTER, FOUND ON THE STREET DURING TRAP/NEUTER/RETURN, OR FROM OUR HOTLINE WHEN CATS ARE FACED WITH BEING TAKEN TO SHELTERS OR ABANDONMENT. WE USE INNOVATIVE, BEST PRACTICE APPROACHES TO ADOPT CATS AND KITTENS, INCLUDING TWO CAT CAFES IN LOS ANGELES AND SANTA BARBARA, VIA THE INTERNET, AND AT ADOPTION EVENTS. IN 2022, STRAY CAT ALLIANCE TOOK 1,974 CATS AND KITTENS INTO FOSTER CARE WHO WERE ELIGIBLE FOR ADOPTION.
