THE MISSION OF THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS THEATRE COMPANY IS TO MENTOR, EDUCATE, AND ENRICH YOUTH IN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE CREATION OF COLLABORATIVE, ORIGINAL THEATRE.

THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS DIRECTLY SERVED 851 LOS ANGELINOS (795 YOUTH & 56 ADULTS) IN 2021. WITH INVENTIVE REMOTE ALTERNATIVES DEVELOPED FOR ALL OF OUR ONGOING PROGRAM MODELS, AND THREE VIRTUAL PILOT PROGRAMS OFFERED IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE YOUTH AND PARENTS FROM UNDER-RESOURCED LOS ANGELES COUNTY COMMUNITIES, AS WELL AS MINORS ENGAGED IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, WITH ENRICHING THEATRE-ARTS EDUCATION AND VITAL MENTORING DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS. AS THE PANDEMIC PROGRESSED, AND OUR PARTNER SITES REOPENED AND ADJUSTED TO NEW PROTOCOLS AND CHALLENGES, WE CONTINUED TO EVOLVE, OFFERING A MIXTURE OF SITE-SPECIFIC IN-PERSON OR VIRTUAL RESIDENCIES SINCE SUMMER 2021. IN TOTAL, WE CONDUCTED 450 TOTAL WORKSHOP SESSIONS (400 VIRTUAL & 50 IN PERSON) AS PART OF 18 DIFFERENT MULTI-WEEK RESIDENCIES AND ANOTHER 15 INDIVIDUAL WORKSHOPS. OUR PROGRAMS RESULTED IN 10 PUBLIC PERFORMANCES (1 IN PERSON AND 9 VIRTUAL). 256 TOTAL AUDIENCE MEMBERS WATCHED THE FREE EVENTS LIVE WHEN THEY AIRED, AND THE VIDEOS REMAINED ONLINE AND CONTINUED TO GENERATE AN AUDIENCE; REMARKABLY, WITH OVER 7,374 TOTAL VIEWS BETWEEN THEM IN 2021.
