THE AL WOOTEN JR. YOUTH CENTER PROVIDED FREE AFTERSCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR MORE THAN 300 STUDENTS IN 2021 IN GRADES 3-12 IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES. WE REOPENED OUR YOUTH CENTER IN JUNE 2021 AFTER 15 MONTHS PROVIDING PRIVATE TUTORING AND OTHER VIRTUAL LEARNING ONLY ON ZOOM DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. WE REOPENED WITH A HYBRID SUMMER FUN CAMP WITH A LIMITED ATTENDANCE OF UP TO 14 STUDENTS PER DAY ONSITE FOR TWO DAYS ONLY, TUESDAY AND THURSDAY (VS 5 DAYS PRE-PANDEMIC). OUR "POSITIVE RESULTS" SUMMER CAMP FEATURED GUEST MENTORS FROM ECOPOINT ENERGY TEACHING WEEKLY PROJECT-BASED GREEN ENERGY CLASSES. OTHER WEEKLY CLASSES SUCH AS COMPUTER ANIMATION WITH STEAM CODERS AND NICKELODEON WERE HELD BOTH ONLINE AND ONSITE. OUR HYBRID COLLEGETRACK AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM IN FALL 2021 HAD UP TO 14 STUDENTS PER DAY ONSITE FOR 4 DAYS, MON-THURS. THE VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES WERE HELD 5 DAYS, MON-FRI, IN THE SUMMER AND AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS. OUR SUMMER AND AFTERSCHOOL ACTIVITIES INCLUDED I-READY DIAGNOSTICS AND VIRTUAL PRIVATE TUTORING IN READING AND MATH, HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, COMPUTER ANIMATION, ROBOTICS, MUSIC PRODUCTION, WEEKLY TEEN AND PARENT DISCUSSION GROUPS, MONTHLY COLLEGE AND CAREER ADVISEMENT WORKSHOPS, COLLEGE TOURS AND SCHOLARSHIP AND MORE.
