SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTHCARE RISK MANAGEMENT'S PRIMARY MISSION IS TO SERVE AS A PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY ALLOWING INTERACTION AND INTERCHANGE WITH OTHER RISK MANAGERS, PROVIDING A FORUM FOR THE INTERCHANGE OF IDEAS AND TO ACHIEVE THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF HEALTHCARE RISK MANAGEMENT THROUGH EDUCATION OF THE COMMUNITY. THE ASSOCIATION STRIVES TO UPGRADE THE IMAGE AND ROLE OF RISK MANAGERS IN THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY THROUGH THE DEFINITION OF PURPOSE, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES WITH HEALTHCARE RISK MANAGEMENT.

DURING THE YEAR, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTHCARE RISK MANAGEMENT'S (SCAHRM) EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDED MONTHLY EDUCATION SESSIONS, ASHRM AUDIO CONFERENCES HOSTED BY SCAHRM, AND AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE THAT IS HIGHLY REGARDED AS ONE OF THE BEST QUALITY CONFERENCES IN THE FIELD. TO EVERY EXTENT POSSIBLE, WE PLAN AND DESIGN PROGRAMS THAT WILL STIMULATE THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS, ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO GROW IN THEIR ROLE, AND ENLIGHTEN OUR MEMBERS TO THE LARGER PICTURE, INCLUDING NEW LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS, CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS, LOSS CONTROL CONSIDERATIONS, LITIGATION CLAIM MANAGEMENT, RISK FINANCE CONSIDERATIONS AND RISK PREVENTION TECHNIQUES. BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS FOR THE CALIFORNIA STATE BAR WERE PROVIDED TO QUALIFIED ATTENDEES WHO ARE MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION AT EACH EDUCATION SESSION. WITH A MEMBERSHIP OF EXTRAORDINARY PROFESSIONALS, MOST OF THE EDUCATION PRESENTATIONS ARE PROVIDED BY OUR OWN MEMBERSHIP, MANY OF WHOM ARE CERTIFIED PROFESSIONALS IN RISK MANAGEMENT (CPHRM'S), FELLOWS OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR HEALTHCARE RISK MANAGEMENT, AND DISTINGUISHED FELLOWS OF THE SOCIETY. AS AN ADDITIONAL MECHANISM TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND INFORMATION TO OUR MEMBERS, THE SCAHRM COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE PUBLISHED A QUARTERLY FORM AND A MONTHLY E-NEWS UPDATE. WE ENCOURAGE AND PROMOTE NETWORKING AMONG OUR MEMBERS BY ALLOTTING TIME AT MEETINGS, AND ENCOURAGING SERVICE ON A SCAHRM STANDING COMMITTEE OR AD HOC TASK FORCE THAT MAY FORM FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. OUR STANDING COMMITTEES INCLUDE THE BYLAWS COMMITTEE, THE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE, THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE, THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE, AND THE PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MARKETING COMMITTEE. EACH COMMITTEE IS CHAIRED BY A MEMBER OF THE SCAHRM BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND EACH COMMITTEE WELCOMES ANY MEMBER WHO WISHES TO PARTICIPATE IN SUPPORT OF THE ORGANIZATION AND ITS MISSION.
