CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY SOUTH BAY (THE "COMMUNITY", FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE WELLNESS COMMUNITY SOUTH BAY CITIES) OFFERS A FREE PROGRAM FOR CANCER PATIENTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES. THE COMMUNITY'S GOAL IS TO HELP AS MANY CANCER PATIENTS AS POSSIBLE RECOVER FROM THE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL EFFECTS OF CANCER TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE LOSS OF CONTROL, HOPELESSNESS, AND SOCIAL ISOLOTION THAT CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES OFTEN EXPERIENCE. SUCH PROGRAMS INCLUDE GROUP SESSSIONS, COUNSELING LED BY LICENSED THERAPISTS, EDUCATION, AND SOCIAL SERVICES FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR LOVED ONES. DURING 2021 THE COMMUNITY RECEIVED 15,500 VISITS FROM OVER 1,200 PARTICIPANTS.
